A San Francisco talk radio station stunned listeners on Thursday when it abruptly went off the air in the middle of a program.
On Thursday, Cumulus Radio’s KGO (810 AM) announced it was ending its “legendary” news and talk format immediately, with plans to announce a new line-up of programming next week.
“We thank you for your loyalty and for trusting KGO to be your source for information,” a spokesperson for the station said in a message posted online. “We also want to sincerely thank all the talented men and women that worked so hard over the years to produce award-winning programming on KGO.”
The shake-up happened around 10 a.m. while the station was airing “The Mark Thompson Show.” In the middle of the program, the audio feed suddenly switched to a pre-taped announcement about the format change.

Don’t know this station, though lefty talk is non-existent since their brand of politics withers and crumbles away after a sound bite.
We do have propositions here in CA to legalize sports betting on your phone and open up more Indian Casinos, though. They say it’ll solve homelessness [not kidding].
“We’re going to an all radish format. We’ll have shows on how to grow and market radishes. We’ll have programs about the use of radishes in fine dining. I’m personally looking forward to our morning show on fertilizing radishes.”

That sure is an impulsive gamble.
24 hours a day of sports betting? Australian Rugby? Indian Cricket?
If I recollect correctly it was the station I occasionally tuned into just to hear the leftist point of view back when I lived close to bay area.
talk radio ain’t what it used to be. The old conservative juggernaut is gone. Clear Channel/I heartradio purposely took a hatchet to its old popular shows and now its unlistenable, its not even a matter of just politics although they are uberwoke now. Its just boring leftwing programming now with breaks shilling leftwing podcasts about the trials and tribulations of some feminist east coast anthropology professor to an audience of truck drivers.Rush would shed a tear at the current landscape.
In the 80’s many of the KGO talk show hosts were genuine conservatives and I spent a lot of time listening - the great Jim Eason, Lee Rogers, Melanie Morgan. There were also some hardcore communists - Michael Krasny.
Nevada went with gambling got through the Great Depression and it paid off down the road.
KGO started in 1924 in San Francisco and then become leaders of the Culture of Death in the 1980’s. Wow. Ray Taliaferro blasphemed on the air daily. Bernie Ward trashed the Catholic Church every day and then his vices placed him in jail in 2007. The list of KGO’s crimes against ethics is massive. The positives at KGO were Barbara Simpson, Bill Wattenburg and the Giants announcers.
As a young lad in the 50s living near San Jose, my fam used to listen to KGO competitor KSFO radio, specifically Don Sherwood in the mornings. Most of the humor was over my head, but I got the jokes later.
