A man in Daytona Beach, Florida, went viral after sharing that he successfully waterproofed his store against Hurricane Ian with spray foam and Flex Seal.
Eddie Kastrul, the owner of Midwest Motorcycle Sales & Rental, posted a video of his undamaged store on Facebook over the weekend. A woman named Cori Bosco (@eastcoastdiy) later re-posted Kastrul's video to TikTok, where it has gone viral with over 1 million views. You can watch the full video here.
Hurricane Ian moved through Florida and the Carolinas last week, causing tens of billions of dollars in damage, reported Reuters. Bosco—a Daytona Beach resident like Kastrul—attempted to waterproof her home by attaching panels to its windows and doors. Unfortunately, the attempt failed, and the storm flooded her home, as it did many others.
"This literally could have saved my home," Bosco said of Kastrul's spray foam idea.
Of course, Kastrul didn't initially know if his waterproofing method would work.
"Let's see how bad we are," he said as he trudged through knee-deep water to the front of his store.

In case you’re interested. Neat way to help stop storm surge from ruining you home or business.
Advertising work in his future?
Good advice for any business or home owner.
Even if all you do is make just a small difference, that could really mean everything.
This is going to sell so much product.
I used Flex Seal to seal around the flange of a new vent stack on the roof a relative’s house some years ago. No leaks.
This man may have just changed the future of those in the path of hurricanes forever.
I imagine expert or establishment types coming against this. They tend to hate someone who is too clever for conventional wisdom.
The insurance industry may even start paying people in hurricane-prone areas to do this to their homes.
I’m wondering how much trouble it is to remove it later; but I guess that’s better than dealing with feet of water...
I like spray foam.
My wife hates it.
When I use it, I often underestimate expansion. That usually doesn’t bother me.
It bothers her.
Maybe a new product...Flex Wrap...rolls-—6 or 12 ft wide. One end has holes for anchoring/sealing.
The bad news is that his store was last seen floating off the Bay of Pigs.
Good Job Florida Man!!!
That is going to revolutionize Hurricane preparations everywhere!!!
“Maybe a new product...Flex Wrap...rolls-”
You don’t watch NASCAR!
“That is going to revolutionize Hurricane preparations everywhere!!!”
I am about 20 miles inland north of Tampa. I had the duct tape ready.
Bump
Just build the whole house of out of flex tape and you’re golden.
I've known folks around here who have used plain old vanilla caulk around their doors. Seems to work well. Pretty easy to remove too. They swear by it.
Duct tape!
