Fight like hell. Great advice. First line of defense is to use gator repellant spray and wear little bells on your shoes. /s

1989 staying at a hostel in Cooktown, AU and said I was going to the estuary to photograph some Saltwater Crocodiles.

One of the locals asked if I'd brought my skyhook with me....

He responded to my puzzled look by informing me, "they can get to 35 mph pretty quick, and you'll never see them coming out of the brush, so a skyhook is your only hope of escape."

Horrible way to go. They drown you first. The bite probably hurts, but the drowning sucks.

We live in Sun City and the local report is that it was a woman who was killed. Prayers up for her, just horrific. It seems she was walking her dog, and early reports are she was not real close to the lagoon, that the gator attacked her and dragged her into the water. Someone spotted a large gator guarding what was a body.

“How to survive a gator attack: ‘Fight like hell,’ wildlife experts say”

That’s some solid advice right there.

When I was young, I remember people with alligator purses and shoes etc. Haven’t seen any in a while. Too may of the stories nowadays of people killed by gators. I blame environmentalists and animal-rights nuts. Maybe I am wrong, but they generally screw up things for people.

Horrible. We're moving to Sun City HH, and have a house on a lagoon there.

I heard the deceased person is a woman, but -- regardless -- prayers for this deceased person.

I live in Sun City. There are at least two gators in every lagoon. I encounter gators on the golf course every day. Old people don’t run too fast. What if the gators have turned into zombies? I’m told you have to shoot them in the back of the head to kill them.

sodpoodle: Could you please change the title of this thread? A woman (not a man) was killed in Sun City, SC. Thanks.

Updates to this sad story:

The article did not say the man was killed by the alligator.
