One person was killed in an apparent alligator attack in South Carolina on Monday, officials said.
The large alligator was spotted "near the edge of a pond" in Sun City Hilton Head, an adult-only community, "guarding what was believed to be a person," the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office said.
Responders found the gator and a dead person, the sheriff's office said. The victim hasn't been identified.

#31 is pretty good, actually.
When I was young, I remember people with alligator purses and shoes etc. Haven’t seen any in a while. Too may of the stories nowadays of people killed by gators. I blame environmentalists and animal-rights nuts. Maybe I am wrong, but they generally screw up things for people.
I’m partial to #10.
I deserved that.....
Gator bite ping!
I heard the deceased person is a woman, but -- regardless -- prayers for this deceased person.
Stay out da bushes! Lagoons are where gators eat, live and breed.
Absolutely HORRIBLE. Prayers up for this woman or man who was apparently killed by a pretty large gator.
Yep... we've been warned. :-(
When we were little munchkins vacationing in HH, Dad took us fishing off a little bridge. Gator snatched my brother’s bait, hook, line and sinker. Little bro’ cried for Dad to save his fishing gear. He got his first lesson in Dad’s super power limitations. Two days later, we saw the gator still dragging my brother’s bobber in the lagoon.
Kill all the alligators. How did they come to America?

Gators are nowhere near as dangerous as the invaders swimming across the Rio Grande everyday. And they’ve been here for centuries before any human set foot here. Don’t want to be eaten by one, then stay away from them.
We live about two blocks from the scene. I fish on our lagoon all the time. Gators are around but most swim away if you approach. The exception are when baby alligators are around the female parent will attack. But mostly they are just “there” we respect them. Cooperheads are a bigger problem. We have lived here for 17 years, you will love it.
An update if it already hasn’t been mentioned. The lady, her name was Nancy Becker, 88 years old, was gardening near her lagoon. She accidentally slipped and fell into the water and the gator grabbed her. Poor darling, living that long and dying that way, so sad.
“Sarcasm” I do not have very good Sarcasm reading skills...

Why not just put down the gators that live next to people? Make a few handbags...
My sister lives near a lake with alligators, where we swam.
Because new alligators will take their place. Same with coyotes.
I live in Sun City. There are at least two gators in every lagoon. I encounter gators on the golf course every day. Old people don’t run too fast. What if the gators have turned into zombies? I’m told you have to shoot them in the back of the head to kill them.
I have heard that Sun City is known (among other things) as God's waiting room. I guess the alligator got tired of waiting.
