Aussie officials are now particularly concerned about flights from Indonesia, where cattle are currently experiencing a foot and mouth disease outbreak, according to CNN. Experts say an outbreak down under could cost the country’s economy $80 billion.
A passenger flying from Bali, Indonesia to northern Australia has been slapped with a $1,874 fine after a police dog sniffed his bag and found two McMuffins and a ham croissant.
The passenger, whose identity has not been released, had not declared the Mcdonald’s breakfast order before arriving last week at Darwin Airport in the country’s Northern Territory.
“This will be the most expensive Maccas meal this passenger ever has,” Australia’s Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Murray Watt said Monday statement.
“This fine is twice the cost of an airfare to Bali, but I have no sympathy for people who choose to disobey Australia’s strict biosecurity measures, and recent detections show you will be caught,” he added.
The pup named Zinta that caught the hungry passenger has been specially trained as part of the Australian government’s recent crackdown on imported food.
Australia has eradicated foot and mouth disease and wants to ensure it doesn’t get brought back into the country through undeclared meat products, its government said.
“Australia is FMD-free, and we want it to stay that way,” Watt added of the fine for the Darwin Airport passenger. “Zinta was placed at Darwin Airport as part of the Albanese Government’s tough new biosecurity defenses, and it’s excellent to see she is already contributing to keeping the country safe.”
The government has committed almost $10 million to further prosecute illegal imports and stop the spread of diseases. Airports there now have sanitation foot mats.

Customs asked him if he had any food items to declare and he said ‘no’..... He was telling the truth!..............
Robble, Robble
Same Circa 2005, we went on a day trip to Windsor, Ontario from Michigan to do a winery tour.
When we got back to U.S. Customs at The Ambassador Bridge, I declared the dozen or so bottles of wine we purchased. They searched our entire minivan for an hour looking for who-knows-what, then in the end made me pay $6 in duty.
The Overseers and prison guards in old colonial, labor camp Ozzie Land?
FMD can survive freezing temp and then cooking temps?
And they were not sending their best people in either case.
Crossing into California they took one orange I had in my ice chest. The guard was eating it as I pulled away
The Aussies had a multi-season series that showcased customs giving fines to people for bringing in an orange, an apple, and so on. They like publicizing how they have zero tolerance and how unfriendly they can be.

Fascist police state abusing its power.

There are reasons to control food items entering and exiting any country. They are important reasons.
Why do people like this make me think of a 338 Laputa?
That’s a Whopper!!!
But as a general rule that is raw food not cooked.
Cooked food is generally free of any sort of pathogens that would contaminate the area.
Raw apple no, cooked apple baked in a pie, no problem.
In this case they were straining at the cooked food (gnat)and totally ignoring the fact (camel) that this person could be carrying the virus on his clothes and shoes.
I never meant to imply the Aussies were sensible about this. The front lines folks working airports are never very bright, regardless of country.
I heard McDonalds was raising their prices.
If you poop your pants, you better declare it.
