Climate model predicts more heavy rainfall events over active volcanoes as planet warms

A pair of researchers at the University of Miami has found evidence that suggests global warming could lead to more heavy rain events over volcanoes around the world leading to more eruptions and mudslides. In their paper published in the journal Royal Society Open Science, Falk Amelung and Jamie Farquharson, describe how they used climate models run under various scenarios to learn more about the probability of increased heavy rainfall events over active volcanoes.

To find out if the increase in future heavy rainfall events is likely to involve volcanoes, the researchers first created a map of all known active volcanoes. They then ran a standard climate model that has been used to predict weather changes in the coming years and visualized specifically where increases in future heavy rainfall events might occur. They then compared the maps of volcanoes with the sites identified by the model.

The researchers ran the model under nine scenarios corresponding to various temperature and greenhouse gas emission estimates. In the worst-case scenario, the model showed more heavy rainfall events occurring over 716 active volcanos, most of which were located in the infamous Ring of Fire, the African Rift and several island chains in the Antarctic and Pacific oceans. Under the medium scenario, the number was 506. They also noted that approximately 100 volcanos would actually see fewer such events. The researchers suggest their findings indicate that officials in likely impacted areas should take note of the likely increase in dangerous events under their jurisdiction.

The mathematical formulae to accurately gauge such geo-isolated events must be astronomically intricate - Ha! NOT!

What we’re seeing here is crude models with no real new formulaic breakthroughs being hobbled and constrained and directed by outside manipulation of supporting data. What’s that mean? It means they take a some ‘model,’ bastardize it to accept a whole bunch of cherry-picked (or even false) data to direct its output to the desired results.

Try ‘models’ with no prior hand-picked data to massage output, nothing but PURE math and formulae.... THEY CANNOT DO IT.

“evidence” “suggests” “more” —— yada yad

If your models don’t definitively say : “X leads to Y”, you are either a liar or a crap modeller.

It is math, dipsh**! Numbers are real. If you can’t master those concepts you need to go be a hermit.

Wait... I thought global warming caused droughts. I can’t keep track.

Pay attention.

When there is a drought, it is caused by global warming.

When there is rain, it is caused by global warming.

When there is snow and ice, it is caused by global warming.

When there is summer, it is caused by global warming.

Just watch how frequently the local 10 day weather forecast changes.

If true there’s absolutely nothing that can be done to resolve this. Volcanoes gonna volcano! 🌋

The complete nonsensical article won’t load for me. What was the objective of this “study”? They set out to see if we should expect more rain in certain spots on this planet in future? Who funded this study?

And we are using and manipulating data again to report what a climate model tells us and calling it “science”? Can anyone point me to a computer model that accurately predicted future climate changes in the last 40 years?

This isn’t science.

The models are broken if they predicted this...

So long as hydrogen bombs are not dropped in volcanos to make more thetans, I’m okay with this.

While conveniently omitting all major volcanoes under the oceans where rain fall is 100% continuous, 100% of the time.

“they ran a standard climate model.” there are about 30+ “climate models” abroad in the land, wonder which standard one they used. Doesn’t really matter, none of them are accurate.

“rainfall causes Volcanoes to erupt?”

No. Rainfall events cause volcano eruption events to occur.

Every prediction Al Gore made in his book Earth in the Balance and in his movie turned out to be wrong. And the climate alarmists are still making the same predictions today. It’s a scam.

Quote from Prof. Stephen Schneider, Stanford Professor of Climatology, lead author of many IPCC reports.

I don't know why our side always chops this quote up, the full quote is so much more daming and chopping it up makes it look like we are taking it out of context and trying to be deceitful.

The full Quote

On the one hand, as scientists we are ethically bound to the scientific method, in effect promising to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but – which means that we must include all the doubts, the caveats, the ifs, ands, and buts. On the other hand, we are not just scientists but human beings as well. And like most people we’d like to see the world a better place, which in this context translates into our working to reduce the risk of potentially disastrous climatic change. To do that we need to get some broadbased support, to capture the public’s imagination. That, of course, entails getting loads of media coverage. So we have to offer up scary scenarios, make simplified, dramatic statements, and make little mention of any doubts we might have. This ‘double ethical bind’ we frequently find ourselves in cannot be solved by any formula. Each of us has to decide what the right balance is between being effective and being honest. I hope that means being both.

“A pair of researchers at the University of Miami has found evidence that suggests global warming could lead to more heavy rain events”

What is the probability that “suggests” will happen?
