Critical elements of leading Alzheimer’s study possibly fraudulent

Critical elements of one of the most cited pieces of Alzheimer’s disease research in the last two decades may have been purposely manipulated, according to a report in Science.

**SNIP**

The highly influential paper, which was published in Nature in 2006, has helped guide billions of dollars in US federal government research into Alzheimer’s, according to Science.

The study, which looked at cognitive decline in mice, proposed that a specific amyloid protein may be responsible for cognitive decline. The hypothesis has since dominated the field, and researchers have worked for years to understand the mechanism by which such proteins may lead to decline.

But a neuroscientist in Tennessee, Vanderbilt University professor Matthew Schrag, said in a Science article that he and other reviewers have identified as many as 10 papers on the protein that deserve deeper scrutiny. The report also cited other prominent researchers who have had difficulty replicating results of the studies on the specific proteins.

“I focus on what we can see in the published images, and describe them as red flags, not final conclusions,” he told Science, when revealing his role as a whistleblower. “The data should speak for itself.”

The heart of the matter is whether images in multiple papers were manipulated to better support a hypothesis, with the work of researcher Sylvain Lesné under particular examination. Lesné, an associate professor at the University of Minnesota, is now under investigation by the university.

His co-author on several papers is Dr Karen Ashe, also a University of Minnesota researcher and one of the most prominent Alzheimer’s researchers in the country. She described the potential manipulation of images as “devastating,” to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, but criticized the idea that her research into amyloid proteins singularly guided federal and drug company spending.

Just dandy. Science can be manipulated? How is that even possible?

When people like Fauci control nearly all the money for research in this country and a large portion around the world, we’ve seen from Covid how science is not really science anymore, it’s politics and money rolled into science to support a particular goal.

Not surprising since a lot of what they told us about the efficacy of the Covid vax was manipulated.

Most “studies” paid for with government grants are fraudulent.

How would you make it impossible?
Scientists are humans, subject to influence and pressure.
That's what the Scientific process is supposed to weed out.

What's worse, corrupt scientists or FDA and CDC legislating which science is "correct" and which is "misinformation", essentially using their considerable authority to back the corrupt scientists and silencing all others.

The journal Nature is British. The journal Science is American. They don’t always see eye to eye on subjects. I recall the journal Nature publishing propaganda before not to say the journal Science hasn’t done that before as well.

This should be no surprise, especially after the games Pfizer and Moderna played with their COVID “vaccines.” And remember several years ago when the editor of the New England Journal of Medicine wrote that editorial in which he decried the widespread fraud occurring in medical research? He stated that 95% of all medical research papers reached conclusions that were wrong, through a combination of fraud and sloppiness, and that this happens because of the drive to be the first to publish in order to chase research grant money.

Others have written more recently about a “crisis of reproducibility”, in which most medical research results cannot be reproduced by other researchers (as in this case). Ever wonder why we constantly hear about how some food is good for you, then it’s bad for you, but then it’s good for you again, etc.? I think that’s due to this cesspool of medical “research” fraud and graft. There’s no better example of all of this than the criminal lying by the “medical establishment” about cheap, safe, and effective treatments for COVID like hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin. They all knew better and yet lied to benefit themselves. Combine this reprehensible behavior with the obscene and deceptive billing practices among consolidated hospital consortiums and you quickly come to the conclusion that the entire medical industry is now built upon fraud and greed and cannot be trusted.

Finding a treatment for Alzheimer’s has eluded scientists for decades.

Decades? How about when it was discovered in 1907 by Dr Alois Alzheimer?

If you are going to be a caretaker, don't look to the medical profession for any help.

I'm guessing you're being sarcastic, but in reality it's very easy. You throw out data points that don't fit your 'story', you use creative statistical analysis, you make sure your graduate students and post-docs know that they have to give you "good data" (meaning it fits your story), and you strongly over-interpret your data. You recommend friends/connections to journals as potential reviewers of your manuscripts - and you do the same for them. All of these things, and much more, are very common in science currently.

who would of thought a society that cheats to get into the right school and to have good grades would fake studies? I think that fraud in scientific research should be a reason to take away degrees in fields of study that the fraud occurred in.

That’s not true!!!!

But the amyloid hypothesis for Alzheimer’s has been very weak for a long time!!!!

You forgot the most important thing of all... prohibiting the publication of “peer-reviewed” papers that disagree with the official narrative.

No papers that go against the official “climate change” narrative, for instance.

Ok. Sure. Fine. Whatever, Mr. Scientist.

You’re right. The reason that can happen is because science is dominated by connected groups that scratch each other’s backs and help ensure that the connected people stay funded. They suppress what they want to suppress.
