Stallone's finest 5 minutes on film?
It would take a heart of stone not to laugh at that.
I watched it for the very first time last fall, and it did not disappoint. I remember the publicity around the sequel in 1985 and thought it was overhyped.
2 sucked, hard.
Rambo 2 was fun but lightweight and stupid. Still, it was a masterpiece compared to 3. 4 is better not mentioned.
Stallone and Crenna were the perfect roles for this film.
The book was even better
We watch it periodically on cable re-runs. Very good. Interesting to note that the starring role might have been played by Steve McQueen, but he was already stricken with cancer by then.
McQueen as Rambo? It would be too much like his role in the Sand Pebbles. Crenna’s too.
This is definitely the best of the Rambo movies. There’s a lot of movie before any action happens. It’s like they can’t/won’t do that anymore.
Don’t forget the cartoon version.
We have both First Blood and Last Blood; never did like the sequels though.
Rambo only killed one guy in the whole film.
In the last one, he massacred an entire Mexican drug gang, Viet Cong style.
But in the book he did more damage and killing. Col Trotter blows his brains out.
Green Berets had a lot of responsibility during that war and some complained they were being used to do too many commando type things that Rangers could have done, many felt that the Vietnam war damaged the focus and recruiting of the Special Forces (Green Berets).
Great scene
Great movie
The book was even better
.....
I agree
2."Rambo: First Blood Part II" 1985 - Unbalanced vet sprung from prison to destroy international relations.
3."Rambo III" 1988 - Vet's path to peace disrupted to kick the Ruskies out of Afghanistan.
4."Rambo" 2008 - Vet's herpetology pursuits stalled to kill all the bad guys in Burma.
5."Rambo: Last Blood" 2019 - Decrepit vet obliterates Mexican cartel to rescue total stranger.
6."Replaced Blood: Mortuary Justice" 2030 - Dead vet reanimates over shorted VA benefits.
7."Rambocop vs. Termipredator" (in development)
The studio asked Bo Randall to make the Rambo knife for them. Said they wanted the Model 12 Smithsonian Bowie blade mated to the Model 18 survival knife’s hollow handle and serrated backbone. The problem was they wanted the knife in a month, and Randall had a waiting list almost two years long. All custom made, by hand, one at a time. And he refused to put his regular customers on hold so he could make a few high-profile knives for Hollyweird.
So the studio contacted Jimmy Lile. If you get a copy of the movie with the full length credits at the end, you’ll see his name roll past. And after the movie, Lile got rich selling cheap imitations of the knives he’d hand-made for the movie.
But Bo missing out on the Hollywood deal didn’t much hurt his business. And apparently he did a pretty decent job training his replacement, because last I looked, the waiting list tor a Randall-Made knife was five years long, and Bo’s been dead since 1989.
