The ace was seen sporting black 'stickers' on her face, which had many questioning if they were symbolic or a ploy to put her opponent off.
It turns out the small strips on her right cheek were medical tape, thought to help keep her sinuses clear and help her breathe properly.
The 40-year-old suffers from recurrent sinusitis which, as well as blocking the airways, can lead to headaches, pressure and pain in the face.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson is also thought to suffer from the condition and had surgery to clear his sinuses last week.
Williams was also seen wearing the kinesiology tape, or K-tape, when she reached the doubles semi-finals at a tournament in Eastbourne earlier this month.
The super-thin flexible material is normally used to aid muscle recovery and increase range of motion in joints, despite limited evidence it actually works.
It has become a ubiquitous piece of kit for top level athletes nursing injuries across nearly every sport ā from Cristiano Ronaldo to Tiger Woods.

I tried those nasal strips on my nose and they just will not stick. The only ones that worked were the kids version and I cant find those anymore
I was thinking this might help with deviated septum issues
Cut herself shaving ?

My experience has been to first apply a Biore pad to my nose and then adhere a BreatheRight to that.
It does help me breathe better during matches.
Better not comment on twitter then..................
It was a good match but Serena look spent and really slow. Lots of rust for sure. Serena in top form would have destroyed that opponent love love.
I use to have repeated sinus infections. My USAF ENT doctor investigated and found I had “deviated septum issues.” My septum was bent until is had nearly closed one nostril. She said she could resolve the problem by straightening the septum and cleaning out the massive scar tissue in my sinus cavities. She performed the operation and I was breathing through my nose with no problems. She said it looked like I had broken my nose at sometime, thus resulting in the deviated septum.
Hope it worked 100% for her - and anyone else who needs them.

I use the nasal strips. I first use a wipe to get all the oil out of my pores. I found the strips work better when I do that.
I always wipe down with isopropyl alcohol first.....after that my biggest problem was gettin’ ‘em off.
Covering her monkeypox?
i might look into that...the surgery doesn’t sound too bad in terms of recovery
SCIENCE!!!!!!
I have a small nose and they are just too big is part of the problem ....which is why the kids version worked.I have tried cutting them every which way.
I think I am going to try the biore strip idea from the poster here
Just thinking it works is usually enough.
As the surgery was back in 2004, I don’t remember if she saw the deviated septum on regular X-rays or if she had to order a MRI or Cat Scan. I haven’t had any sinus infections since then and my sinus drainage problems and headaches also ended, except for when major weather fronts moved through the area, when my head/sinuses acted as a barometer.
there are some things that you can do to get drainage. I can’t even remember what they are but accupressure type things. one of them amazed me at how fast it worked. I will have to go back and revisit that concept
If she would lose 25 pounds she might not have breathing or exhaustion problems and might win a match.
I used KT tape when I worked at the health club. It was all the rage for a while, then sort of petered off. I had it for some sub-scap issues when I swam. I never had any relief from it then.
I also thought the trigger points massages (turning muscles off and on again) was a big waste of money as well.
Some people swear by it, so who knows. I also thought acupuncture and chiropractic adjustments were useless... again, if it works for other people, who knows? I say, let ‘em do it.
The problem with the K-tape is that it should be placed by a professional who knows what they are doing, if used improperly it can further damage the problem area and create new injuries in other areas.
