I wonder if he really is going to step down.
I had a friend visit the Vatican. He went on and on about it, it was so spectacular. Certainly would be an interesting place to visit.
The library which they probably do not let you visit would be something to see, they have letters to Ann Boleyn from Henry VIII in there (that is how they excommunicated him).

My guess is that Francis is not ready to resign, but he wants to give the cardinals that he has appointed a chance to get to know each other now to reduce the risk that they might inadvertently elect a practicing Catholic to the papacy once he is gone.
