I’ve been to Kauai for 10 days. Just loved it. Best vacation ever. But I’ll not fly again:-( Me and TSA don’t get along. I get picked almost every time for a pat down. They do their best to separate the owner from their luggage/personal belongings. Too big of hassle. I love flying but not the airport hassle.

I don’t think I could disagree with this author more. Arch linux? For a linux beginner? Only if you hate your life. If you have to use Arch, then Manjaro for beginners. Debian for beginners? Not unless you want them to back to Windoze.
Kubuntu or Linux Mint are the easiest to transition from Windoze. Maybe ElementaryOS.
Yep... Mint is running away with the Linux concept as the best so all these articles avoid it and try to promote the others lagging behind. :)
I had my wife (a Windows user from the time of Win3.1 onward) using Ubuntu Linux for a year. If she hadn't started using a craft vinyl cutting machine requiring the use of Windows-only closed-source software, she wouldn't have gone back.
Yeah, I’ve been using it almost that long. Back then, the kernel panic messages said “call Linus.” I think it had his phone number, too...
Mint Cinnamon quickly convinced me that the bad old days of Linux were over.
Well, I don’t know much about the Linux options in general, but we don’t do anything complex. For this average home-user, Mint is fine.
Except for compatibility with some items that work off of MS software, like sewing and other craft machines, I haven’t needed anything that Mint can’t handle. (And I think some of those are being offered that work with Linux, too, now.)
Linux is like a rottweiler, it can smell fear. So put on your big boy pants, snarl back at it (like you mean it), learn some elementary command line and show it who’s boss, else it’ll bite off your wedding tackle.
LOL! I’ll remember that, if I ever have reason to get rough with it.

Even the models you have now may have new Linux software available as of recent. A dig through the manufacturers support may find these for you. :)
For the average new Linux user not familiar with Linux Mint is the best. I have tried them all and stick with Mint myself as the easiest and most stable to use.
Thanks, I’ll remember that. I haven’t even chosen a machine yet, but I’ve been wanting one of those ‘Cricut’ types of gadget.
Those screen prints sure looked end user friendly to me. /sarc
Back then we had built a machine using an EISA board and numerous “expermental” I/O cards. I think we had 16 of the biggest drives of the day in that thing. It may have been one of the first “servers” around. I recall some salesman from IBM showing up and telling us we needed his $750,000 RISC machine. We took him back to the thing we had built (named Frankenstein) and he laughed when he saw this thing with multiple boxes and ribbon cables all over with a spot cooler blowing cold air into the boxes (only way to keep it running). He said, “that won’t work*”. He stopped laughing when we started doing things on the console and told him everything cost less than 10% the cost of his machines, he wanted us to buy. He mumbled something and left; we never saw him again.
*I’ve never really paid much attention to people who said I could not do this or that.
Where is the picture of the cpu in an aquarium for a case that used to get posted to this sort of thread.
20 years ago people were making all sorts of things. Very Few now
Even 25 or 30 years ago, software creators were a lot more clever and creative than they are now.
“Mint Cinnamon quickly convinced me that the bad old days of Linux were over. “
Yep... My first thoughts were “This is almost Win 7!”
Yes!
Thank you! The things I’ve wanted to do are designed by freelancers for the machines; so I’ll check and see that they’ll work.
