So the lane is supposed to be empty except for passing?
We have that law too and it has helped 🤪
So if one overtake a line of slower trucks that are in the right lane but it takes 2 minutes to get past them while driving the speed limit does that qualify as slo poke?
Bunching up cars creates dangerous situations with so many others in blind spots. Enforcing the left lane for passing opens up the spacing.
Obstruction of traffic by brain dead motorists is a long time problem đźš—
That was drilled into our heads in Driver's Ed in Missouri back in 1966 and I never forgot it. My wife always immediately jumps to the left lane on ANY multilane road and that drives me nuts. Of course, she learned to drive in California.
What's the difference between "passing" and "overtaking a car"? I suppose you could be overtaking a truck.
That is such a classic Larson cartoon! Great memory to bring that up.
That's a sick way to think of summer, so I should say "feel" about summer. Everyone needs to be afraid. When you hear this kind of BS, watch the other hand. If there is nothing more important than focusing on slowpoke drivers, then I need to move to South Carolina. I guess this is what you get from a people that elect Linda Graham. Wise-up SC, stop being pussies and being afraid. Summer isn't deadly. Focus on real problems, like removing every illegal from your borders. Like the opioid problem that came with those wetbacks.
It’s posted here : Left,Lane for Passing Only
AKA - lead follow or get the hell out of the way 🤪
On I 26 and I 95, the right lane is the Defacto 18 wheeler/RV lane and the speed is roughly 68mph
The left lane is for most 4 wheelers and moves at 70- 80 mph. Average is say 75. In cities, the speed decreases and the mix is not the same. Coming into Columbia from the north, there is 35-40 mile construction zone that really screws it all up. It is very bad news for a “wide load”. I shudder at the thought of driving 35 miles with a wide load through cities and towns on a 2 lane roadway
They need this law in Pennsylvania, and need to enforce it in NJ, particularly against drivers from Pennsylvania. They seem to have no idea how to use a multi-lane highway, and will sit in the left lane, not passing anyone, but blocking anyone else from doing so, for miles and miles. I see it all the time, and it is very, very often, drivers with PA plates.
I95 through long stretches of SC is wholly inadequate for the existing traffic. I have spent many hours in stop and go traffic in the middle of nowhere SC. I’m not certain all of the traffic would fit in a single lane.
It's also against the law for drivers to be passing on the right on the autobahn. I felt safer driving on the autobahn at speeds over 100 mph, than I do driving now.
I have fond memories of big beemers and benzes flashing their lights from a half mile behind me. If you blinked, you'd miss them going by at 150+ mph.
One way of looking at is you shouldn’t give someone a chance to pass you on the right on a two-lane interstate.
I thought this was obvious, and already a law. Sad to see so many people posting here that think this should not be.
Why do they think they should occupy the left lane and tie people up, when they could get over to the right and drive slow if that’s what they want to do?
We drive on the right in this country. Why is it that some people insist on driving in the left lane on the interstate? It is simple: if people are trying to pass you, move to the right. What is so hard about that? My mother was a bit scared to drive on the highway, and would take the middle lane. I had to explain to her that if people were passing her on both sides she needed to move to the right. She was afraid trucks would “run over her”. They won’t.
I’m stealing that.
The slowpokes should move to NY where vehicle and traffic laws are optional.
One of the other problems contributing to people not being able to use the left passing lane for its intended purpose are the idiots who go at or below the speed limit in the middle lane on a 3 lane highway. They should stay in the far right lane.
My local favorite is people driving 5 over until they get to a lane closure and then they slow to 5 under by the time you get to the end of the lane closure, they are at 10 under.
I have noticed that if there are 3 lanes, the slowest traffic is always in the center lane. The only exception is when an exit is coming up. People get in the right lane and slow down to 10 mph below the limit miles before the exit because they are afraid of missing it.
