Police charged a Fort Worth, Texas woman on May 4 with abuse of a corpse after she threw the ashes of her boyfriend’s mother into Lake Worth, local station KXAS reports.
The Fort Worth Police Department said Ernest Smith, 38, told officers that his girlfriend Augustine Gladney, 40, confessed to him in a text message that she dumped his mom’s ashes.
It appears that the incident resurfaced recently after a TikTok video that purports to show Gladney throwing the ashes in the lake went viral on social media. It’s captioned, “He cheated so i threw his mom ashes in the river.”
(snip)
A break in the case came recently after Smith said he overheard Gladney tell her daughter on the phone that she threw the urn into the lake. About four hours after he heard the conversation, Gladney reportedly sent Smith the text confession, which he kept for evidence.
Gladney faces up to a year in prison and a maximum fine of $4,000 if convicted.

She's so very sorry... that she got caught.
She stole them, she should go to jail.
Proof one should never ever plug themselves into a 220V outlet.
So what will be the first decision before the USSC:
1) A man is not a woman and a woman is not a man.
2) Ashes are not a corpse (they are, however, “remains”).
When did a “boyfriend” seeing another girl become “cheating”? Unless you are married or at least engaged, it is not cheating in any serious sense, but more on the level of Johnny giving his ring to another girl at Leslie Gore’s party.
One of the reasons why human remains and cremains should be respectfully interred in the ground or in a mausoleum, not on top of ones mantle or entertainment center.
Hell hath no fury like a woman wrongfully spermed!
Anybody desperate enough to have sex that, should expect bad things to happen
Woah. I did not need to see that.
Augustine, you need to ‘Urn’ his love and respect back.
Now give him something that belongs to you, so he can throw that into the same river. How much is your cell phone worth?
Pro Tip: She’s not the one
It’s cheating if you’ve agreed to be exclusive, even if you’re not engaged.

Abuse of a corpse? Excuse me I don’t know how much more abuse a corpse can take after you burn it to ashes.
But it is a temporary exclusivity, so the “cheating” was just a declaration of an end to the exclusivity. Still sounds like high school level “going steady” to me.
What did his mom have to do with it?
Dump him, yes.
But why bring anyone else into what is purely a private squabble?
Funny story. My sister wanted to throw our father’s ashes from a commercial boat at sea. They got super upset and wouldn’t let her do it. I’m thinking, what’s the big deal? But apparently the boat captain thought it was although he couldn’t tell her why. I told her, for God’s sake, when you got back to shore, just walk down the dock and pour them in! They’re still sitting on the mantlepiece.
We’re living in a world where people think you need permission to dump three pounds of ashes in the sea. For something like that, I give my own permission.
“...It appears that the incident resurfaced ...”
A poor choice of words.

One case supports the captain:
An urn was dumped over the bow—at speed. The ashes flew up and covered the crew and the boat!
Man hands. 😏
