Funny story. My sister wanted to throw our father’s ashes from a commercial boat at sea. They got super upset and wouldn’t let her do it. I’m thinking, what’s the big deal? But apparently the boat captain thought it was although he couldn’t tell her why. I told her, for God’s sake, when you got back to shore, just walk down the dock and pour them in! They’re still sitting on the mantlepiece.
We’re living in a world where people think you need permission to dump three pounds of ashes in the sea. For something like that, I give my own permission.
One case supports the captain:
An urn was dumped over the bow—at speed. The ashes flew up and covered the crew and the boat!
It’s not against the law to throw ashes into a lake, ocean or river. It is illegal to get caught or tell anybody about it.
