Since the premiere of real-life criminal drama shows "The Dropout" and "Inventing Anna," America has become enraptured with the stories of Elizabeth Holmes and Anna Sorokin. Each series resulted in numerous hot takes on social media, with discourse around how two women managed to dupe the country's "elite" and heads of multi-million dollar companies, using what turned out to be elaborate schemes.
We are not here to discuss whether the victims of these scams deserved their fates, or whether the consequences matched the crime, but rather illuminate one fact that has become clear with these stories: these women were only able to execute scams of this magnitude because of the way they look. It simply would not have been possible had they been Black.

Absolutely the success of these women’s scams were aided by their looks. Just as Ted Bundt’s looks and charm aided his killing spree. Duh! Part of Holmes’ success was also because everyone wanted to believe she was a female Steve Jobs. It was affirmative action of a sort. An attractive black female could become just as big of a grifter.
Another white people are bad bigoted article.
Chris
are you kidding? There are some gorgeous black women.
Sounds like the writer is more than a little prejudice against black women.
Holmes was a put-up mental freak with KRAZY eyes and a fake lowered voice and some kitch about thinking he was a female Steve Jobs. A con-woman....
Oh the horror! Life is unfair! Boo hoo hoo! I guess the rest of will just have to work harder.
A good con is a good con.
These women got caught, so not the greatest cons. ballsy through
‘Leverage’ was a fun TV shoe
Eurocentric beauty is never outdated.
Its the hair. Looks like dirty pubes. When straightened the problem is solved. All my Polish cousins had to get rhinoplasty. They are not ashamed. They are pragmatic. And, now, lovely.
lol
Happy Easter!
Lots of words saying and proving nothing, simply unproven assertions. And Elizabeth Holmes puffy face is not something I ever thought was attractive. She always looked to me like she was ill and talking steroids as treatment. She also has a manner of speaking that is not normal for a woman of any color and makes her sound more masculine. Holmes got by with good connections and a line of BS that fed into the tech investor worldview that things will get exponentially faster, cheaper and easier over time.
They were neither beautiful women, but they were women and had a bunch of warpaint and armour to dress up with. Attitude and venality supplied the rest.
Excuse me, but it’s Madison Ave. and all those liberals in the advertising business that have pushed the thin blonde standard on us for decades. Remember Twiggy?
Truth is, every culture has it’s beauty standards, including African nations. Most American women are not fat enough to be considered beautiful in Samoa. This article has potentially answered a question for me though.
I had a make-up board on my Pinterest account, just a few pictures on applying eyeliner. Everyday in my email Pinterest sends me stuff they think might interest me. Lately their make-up suggestions have featured black women only, wearing the nuttiest, and ugliest crap I’ve ever seen. The only way I got it to stop was to delete the entire board!
pretty much
Oh boy. Jealousy. She’s was recently rejected by a white guy she wanted in favor of a white woman.
Six rates both of them too high. More like 3-4. I had to look Sorkin up because I wasn’t familiar with her (I am much more in the tech world than socialite.) Sorkin seems to clean up a little better with a dress and makeup, but I don’t think I would want to look at her first thing in the morning.
I know many here didn’t like him, but I did enjoy reading and watching him speak. I didn’t agree with many conclusions, but he laid out his thoughts in a calm, intelligent manner.
Uh.... we have?
I know who Holmes is, she was the head of that company with the "way to good to be true" medical device.
Turned out to be false.
And a bunch of people learned a valuable lesson. But I would bet the majority of them forgot it inside a week.
Have no idea who the other one is.
