"Just like a car is subject to wear and tear over many years of use, limiting how long it works well, the natural aging process can progressively deteriorate the body and limit lifespan," said Rajagopal Sekhar.
His work contributes to providing a better understanding of how glutathione deficiency, increased oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction and multiple additional hallmark defects of aging contribute to the aging process and how they can be reversed with GlyNAC supplementation.
"We were excited to find that the mice that received GlyNAC lived 24% longer than those that did not receive GlyNAC," Sekhar said. "We next wanted to understand how GlyNAC works."
In aged mice, the team found that all three organs had glutathione deficiency, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, abnormal mitophagy (difficulty in disposing damaged mitochondria), impaired nutrient sensing and genomic damage. GlyNAC supplementation improved and corrected all these defects in the old mice. The researchers propose that it is the improvement of these fundamental biological defects that contributes to the animals' longer life.
"But mice are not humans. Could this happen in people? There is published evidence from our human studies showing that GlyNAC supplementation improves similar defects in people," Sekhar said.
For instance, in a pilot human clinical trial in older adults, Sekhar's group showed that taking GlyNAC for 24-weeks improved many characteristic defects of aging, including glutathione deficiency, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, inflammation, insulin resistance, endothelial dysfunction, body fat and genomic damage. Importantly, the researchers also observed improvement in muscle strength, gait speed, exercise capacity and cognitive function.
Another exploratory human trial by his team investigated premature aging in people with HIV and showed that taking GlyNAC improved and corrected multiple similar defects to reverse premature aging and also increased strength, energy levels, cognitive function and quality of life.

GlyNAC is just equal parts glycine and NAC, from what I’ve previously found.
Thanks so much for posting these articles about health and nutrition.
Some of this information has been very useful for me in figuring out what is a trigger for my food allergies.
There goes the market for adrenochrome.
AGING ping
Will it overcome a nuclear exchange?
Can you recommend a brand?
I take both of these. Among other things.
100% Pure Glycine Powder | 2 Pounds -—

Swanson vitamins online. Reliable and decent prices.
They don’t seem to carry glynac?
Am I missing something?
Take them individually.
I’m halfway there — been taking NAC as part of my COVID therapeutic protocol.
For glycine as a powder, there are some brands that have it very inexpensive, but I'd say a reasonable compromise with quality (from reviews at ConsumerLab.com) is Now Foods, followed by Nutricost.
The form of NAC I previously got was Jarrow Formula's time-release pill form. If only taking NAC, that should be best absorbed. I haven't looked up a powder NAC form.
Start with 500/500 mg or 600/600 mg of each, to see how you handle them. Do consider taking them separate from other supplements, and NAC may bump up serotonin a little, which can be a concern for some people taking medicines, so do some research to make sure you will be fine.
If you’re having trouble finding NAC, try searching for n-acetyl cystine.
Also avoid Amazon. The FDA has been leaning on NAC distributors lately and Amazon responded by limiting sales. There’s only a few left selling at absurd prices.
I like Now brand from VitaCost.
NAC is also great at preventing progression of respiratory illnesses.
Thank you
Going to have to check these out tonight.
I use Thorne for NAC, Quercetin, and Zinc. I buy direct from the manufacturer. Their products seem to be very high quality and they provide a lot of information on how their products are manufactured and their quality control.
I, too, have used Now brand and thought they were good.
Amazon is notorious for letting merchants sell counterfeit products, too. I am more comfortable buying from the manufacturer.
Ever since college, I’ve gotten one to two colds per year with most of them progressing to chronic bronchitis that would last 10 to 12 weeks. Since starting NAC two years ago (plus zinc, Vit C, Vit D3 and lots of hand washing), I haven’t gotten a single cold and no bronchitis. Of course, having grown kids and being retired (out of an office) undoubtedly helps a lot, too.
I’m reading that its better to take serine than glycine. why? because serine converts into glycine—but during the conversion process also ejects some methylation molecules that further drive metabolism.
Now I feel better. I take NAC regularly (usually 600mg/day, but 1200 or more if I am sick) and add TMG (trimethyl glycine) to my coffee every day. Wife’s gonna be stuck with me for a while.
