I stopped watching Jeopardy years ago. I only hear about this stuff here on FR. It might be on the cover of People or the Enquirer as I go through the checkout but for the most part I would be ignorant of all this otherwise.
Yeah, I lost interest when it became more about pop culture than history and literature and such.
This really falls under the “who cares” part of my brain.
I understand it. My wife was a local news anchor on radio for 20 years. Her work friends were the local TV reporters with whom she broke into the business.
When we would go out with them, people would flock around them as if they “ knew” them. The small celebrity was kind of cool at first. But after years of it…it became tedious. And this was before social media.
The public had no idea who these people were. Most of them were normal. But among them were several heavy drinkers, drug users, floozies, and complete idiots. They were, in other words, a group of normal, private, people. You don’t KNOW the people you see on TV.
That is what’s happening here. It’s a carnival side show. And because they are oddities…even more so.

I learned watching “Without A Trace” reruns this week that there’s a sex-related code connected to the color of nail polish a person wears. Don’t know if it’s true, but maybe ... I don’t even want to know in this instance.
