Brace yourself: Grocery prices are about to go through the roof — again

They blamed COVID-related supply issues, as well as high labor costs and rising expenses for fertilizer and other farming necessities. Goldman’s forecast is the latest gut punch for U.S. consumers grappling with rising costs for practically everything, from rent to food.

It also serves as a shot across the bow of election-minded politicians who already know inflation will be perhaps the single biggest issue going into the November midterms.

For working families, another 6% increase in grocery prices would make it even harder to get ahead. Since the start of the pandemic, food costs have jumped by about 11%. Wages over the same period have declined by 1.2%.

Everyone is going to end up living in their cars before they are done with this conspiracy against the people.

All this means is that groceries will become a commodity, valuable enough to hijack. Shopping for food items will become a risky business. All shoppers be aware that ,upon leaving grocery stores, you may face the possibility of an attack by thieves or the less well of. Wives, bring your husbands to accompany you or pack heat. Shop at larger stores where security is present or shop in groups for personal safety. Keep your eyes peeled while on the parking lot. And remember the root cause. Let’s go Brandon.

Most people are on fixed income unless they work by commission.

Nope.

Most people can pick up a few hours more if they want to. Five hours of OT can give a nice bump to the budget.

When I was a kid in Chicago, Chicago has the biggest snow storm ever, taller than me as a 3rd grader in some areas, and the whole neighborhood ran out of food.

My dad and the other neighborhood dad’s shoveled a path down the streets to main thoroughfare that was plowed, took orders from our elderly neighbors, took all their kid’s sleds and walked to a grocery store about 10 miles away. (Got his picture in the local paper, pulling his sled!)

Ever since then, I and my brothers have become a food hoarder.

Having lost my job for a year, hoarding has helped but it looks like the direction we are going it won’t help enough.

Average gasoline price in Pensacola went up about 20 cents in less than a week here in Pensacola. Now around $3.45.

Since my job situation is uncertain, I’m not doing cable TV right now, only internet. It’s probably better that I’m not vegging in front of the boob tube right now, anyway.

...butter seems to have skyrocketed around here.

It is truly different in different areas.

Butter here dropped to 1.99 on its own *Essential brand), without any discount or loyalty card points. 80% ground beef has been at 1.99 in 3# packs for a few weeks.

Rural Central Wisconsin.

Fixed income is a funny term. Most people are on fixed income unless they work by commission.

Not necessarily. When I worked, I could always work overtime. I could cash in some leave. Now, I'm on a real fixed income. My only option is to go back to work. Something I'm loathe to do. Fortunately, I prepared for my retirement, so I'll be one of the last ones to have to make drastic changes to my lifestyle.

So I heard something today that was interesting. We get most of our ammonium nitrate, for fertilizer from Russia. If true that doesn’t bode well for our farmers since we are Sabre rattling with Putin and our fake puddin president.
Also I heard that China is holding on to their grain supplies. Another issue for our farmers I’d guess.
What is the third strike? Maybe China urging all their populous to stock up on food and other necessities.
I feel we are at the cusp of a world War. Could it be the plan of the folks pulling the strings for the puppet president to stem the all but certain war between our divided peoe.

...on sale usually goes for $5” Do you have a time machine? How is this possible?

Loss leaders... Stores put things on sale at a loss to get customers into the store... Some stores also do a 13 week rotation on buy one get one free. During the Carter years we all had to pay attention to all this crap. Are gas lines next?
