Need Manly Information. A family member is selling his big diesel truck and thinking of purchasing a Raptor. Two people disparaged the Raptor and said it was a "kids truck". Manly Freepers? Your opinions? Freeperettes with hairy chests welcome to comment.
Not the case. I just couldn’t understand why the old men said that
Ok if you want to use it for mall cruising. In the 4 wheel community they are called “tacos” because the frame folds up in the middle.
I actually saw one of those 3 axle custom pickups in town a couple months ago.
I read an article about the custom 3 axle PUs years ago in an off road magazine. There was no advantage in off roading in mud. They do look nice.
I find my old quadrasteer very nimble on the highway or narrow switch back logging roads.
Not really a kids truck but a bit under-powered.
Depends on why he wants it.
What kind of diesel is he selling?
He does realize his gas millage is going to go through the floor right?
This is a daily drive and weekend work truck too. Plans for a work town g truck in a few years to add to the fleet
Turbos serve two purposes;
A) adding more horsepower to an already powerful engine or
B) to make a little engine act like a big one but save fuel and have lower EPA emissions.
The question: Is the lower fuel cost worth it compared to the initial higher cost of the turbo and then the eventual replacement cost? Leasing vs owning?
Studies show that outside of turbo diesel trucks, locomotive, and marine engines, it's not worth the additional cost.
Does anyone make a good high performance mid-size truck? I need 4WD, crew cab and too much power.
Or do I just redo the drivetrain on my 08 Frontier?
I gave been driving trucks as my primary vehicle for over 45 years now (my very first vehicle was an old International Scout pickup that I bought at a surplus equipment auction when I was 16). My biggest problem with the Raptor is that I refuse to pay $75K for a pickup truck. IMHO, if it costs too much to scratch, scrape and dent driving through brush and hauling lumber and equipment then it isn’t a real truck.
Tell him to buy a used Yugo, he can’t go wrong....
So the problem is a competitive truck that has not been released yet? That is speculation I think.
The EcoBoost V-6 engine is great. I have one in my Lincoln MKT and it is super efficient and amazingly powerful.
Who knows. They may have just been teasing, but I have known folks who are way too serious when it comes to car/truck stuff like that -- something I've never really understood. I grew up in a family of car lovers, and if it's a nice ride it's a nice ride.
Just know that the turboed engine is going to wear out and vomit itself long before any normally aspirated V-8 or any Diesel. Turbos are the new planned obsolescence.
MOST DIESELS HAVE Turbos !!!
1803 original miles.

Your words ring true.
Just this past weekend my wife was traveling from SE CO through W. Kansas on her way home loaded with family heirlooms in my 2019 Nissan Titan XD.
Damn DEF malfunction light came on with an eventual message stating she had 200 miles to go before 5 mph emergency speed kicked in. Long story, headed her direction with a friend’s 2500 Chevy and 6 ton bumper hitch trailer and got home at 10pm that night.
Took the truck to the dealership this morning and received a call that it was “ fixed” at lunch. The tech told me the pickup needed a software update? What?
Guess I shouldn’t worry about an EMP when the company or big brother wants to shut me down.
This note is getting rather long but I completely despise DEF “Obama juice”. I would remove it but then I would lose warranty so I am screwed.
Parts
there are lots of bad drivers, and some of those were my children.
A real man does anything it pleases him to do. The measure of his manliness is not so much in what he does but in why it pleases him to do so.
I was referring to gasoline engines and mentioned them separately.
