CBS’ broadcast of the wild, rollercoaster, overtime NFL divisional playoff game between the Chiefs and Bills averaged 42.7 million total viewers on Sunday night (per final numbers)– up 18 percent from the comparable Bucs/Saints game on Fox a year ago.
That grand total marks a five-year high for a divisional playoff game, and its audience peaked at 51.7 million.

How quickly people have forgotten the NFL's rejection of America.
How willing people are to cheer for thugs who refuse to stand for the National Anthem.
I was not one of them. It disgust me that so many people support these disrespectful anti-American POS NFL players by watching them.
It was a fantastic game. Sorry you missed it.
I think the NFL blew it on the rules. A coin toss on overtime where the one who won the toss and scores wins. In collegiate sports each team gets a chance and it goes on until one team fails.
I didn’t see the game. Not interested since husband died.
But what u say here seems fair.
My quest to find NFL games without the insipid commercials and the elementary school hoop la of halftime has been satisfied by watching, for free, the game high lights on youtube.
The full game is usually available 15 minutes after the game ends.
Just how worthless are the non-NFL parts of a game? A regular game will run 3+ hours, especially if there’s overtime. The average highlight video, less all the junk, runs less than 13 minutes. Talk about boiling it down.
I agree. The college rules are much more fair to the teams.
Let’s give the NFL some credit here. They were astute enough to know that their fan base is filled with a bunch of pathetic losers who would set themselves on fire before they ever give up their bread and circuses.
As to why I've started watching the NFL again, it's as much to do with seeing 70,000 or 80,000 people crammed into a stadium to watch the action and cheer on their team. I admit that it gives me a good feeling to see that, even though at the outdoor stadium in Buffalo weekend before last the fans were required to show their vax card before they were allowed in or, as with children under 5 years old, they were forced to wear a mask throughout the game ... though I doubt there was any way to enforce that idiocy.
Cheers!
Entertainers are not the entertainment. The Bills-Chiefs game was one for the ages, unless you love great defense and/or a more fair OT system.
Did they even field a defense in the final minutes?
13 seconds left to play WITH THREE TIMEOUTS, that’s like having an additional 30 seconds. And being able to use the entire field made a huge difference.
Now I’m not saying it wasn’t bad to give up the FG with 13 seconds left, just pointing out that considering it was Mahomes, there was a fairly good chance they were going to pull it off, considering by that time the Bills were getting no pressure on him.
When it came to that game, the two minute warning was a warning to all that we were about to watch most exciting 2 minutes in football playoff history. Mahomes has a way of doing that to you. Great to have two opposing quarterbacks with a gimme the ball last frame of mind when it comes to winning. It makes for 4th quarters like this one so memorable
If you played an entire NFL game from start to finish and only watched each play from the snap to the whistle, it would probably take no more than 15 minutes from end to end.
The NFL should go back to the old rule. The “if a FG the other team gets a turn” thing is silly. Pure sudden death. This isn’t baseball, defense can score. And defense can make a stop. Scrimmages are a terrible way to decide a playoff game.
During the Bucs game the announcer was talking about how Brady was going to have to go into the lockerroom at halftime and hammer in about the time he was down that much and ended up winning the game
The Mahomes/Allen classic two minutes will be the talk of many lockerrooms in the future. It can be done...even with 13 seconds left - if your coach managed the time outs!
