I think the NFL blew it on the rules. A coin toss on overtime where the one who won the toss and scores wins. In collegiate sports each team gets a chance and it goes on until one team fails.

I didn’t see the game. Not interested since husband died.
But what u say here seems fair.

I agree. The college rules are much more fair to the teams.

The NFL should go back to the old rule. The “if a FG the other team gets a turn” thing is silly. Pure sudden death. This isn’t baseball, defense can score. And defense can make a stop. Scrimmages are a terrible way to decide a playoff game.

I find it hard to understand why people defend this current OT rule....agree, college rule makes far more sense. If the coin toss had gone the other way it could just have easily been the alternate outcome.

That is not entirely true. I've seen plenty of NFL overtime games that have resulted in the other team winning that did not win the coin toss.
Why does everybody keep repeating that the team that wins the coin toss and scores, wins?
It is "Sudden Death" if the team that wins the coin toss scores a Touchdown on the opening drive of OT.
"Under NFL rules, if the team that receives the kickoff in overtime scores a touchdown, then the game is over. If the team kicks a field goal, then the other team will get a chance to have the ball".
Maybe they should take out the "Sudden Death". However, keep in mind, playoffs cannot end in a tie like regular season. So their could be a lot of OTs.
