Repeated boosters of original Covid-19 vaccines not a viable strategy: WHO experts warn

GENEVA (AFP) - WHO experts warned on Tuesday (Jan 11) that repeating booster doses of the original Covid-19 vaccines is not a viable strategy against emerging variants and called for new jabs that better protect against transmission.

An expert group created by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to assess the performance of Covid-19 vaccines said simply providing fresh jabs of existing Covid-19 vaccines as new strains of the virus emerge was not the best way to fight the pandemic.

“A vaccination strategy based on repeated booster doses of the original vaccine composition is unlikely to be appropriate or sustainable,” the WHO Technical Advisory Group on Covid-19 Vaccine Composition (TAG-Co-VAC) said in a statement.

It said preliminary data indicated the existing vaccines were less effective at preventing symptomatic Covid-19 disease in people who have contracted the new Omicron variant, currently spreading like wildfire around the world.

But protection against severe disease, which is what the jabs were especially intended to do, “is more likely to be preserved”.

It recommended developing vaccines that not only protect people against falling seriously ill but could also better prevent infection and transmission in the first place.

“Covid-19 vaccines that have high impact on prevention of infection and transmission, in addition to the prevention of severe disease and death, are needed and should be developed,” TAG-Co-VAC said.

"Until such vaccines are available, and as the Sars-CoV-2 virus evolves, the composition of current Covid-19 vaccines may need to be updated, to ensure that (they) continue to provide WHO-recommended levels of protection against infection and disease by VOCs (variants of concern), including Omicron and future variants.”

Meanwhile our current vaccines are basically worthless as per the Pfizer CEO!

Pfizer CEO: Our Vaccines Offer ‘Limited, If Any Protection’

Speaking during remarks to a J.P. Morgan healthcare conference this week, Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla openly stated current vaccines the company developed for Wuhan coronavirus offer “limited, if any” protection against contracting current variants of the disease. He then encouraged booster shots.

The statement from Bourla comes as the Biden administration continues to justify vaccine mandates for federal workers, contractors and private businesses. The Supreme Court heard arguments about President Biden’s mandates for private companies and medical workers last week. A ruling is expected soon on the constitutionality of the mandates.

A number of people who have pointed out the waning efficacy of Pfizer’s vaccines, which Bourla touted last year as being “100 percent” effective against contracting or transmitting the virus, have been banned by social media companies.

1. Masks are useless.
2. Wear a mask for protection.
3. Wear two masks for protection.
4. Get vaccinated.
5. Get a booster.
6. Additional boosters don’t help.

These people have little credibility with me.

It’s because they’d got a “brand new” vaccine they’re putting out in a couple of months. I suspect they’re just slapping new labels on the ones they’re currently killing people with.

Well yeah ... he’s advocating that there be routine injections of “modified boosters,” modification to suit whatever rhetoric the doctors choose to advance.

There will be thousands of varients and can be thousands of vaccines, just in the coronavirus family.

Very seldom of politicians do things to actually solve problems. Most of the things that they do and say are to get reelected, pander to wedge issues that divide their opponents, or create an illusion that they are doing something positive.

Does anyone really think that spending about 2 Trillion on “infrastructure” that is mostly pork barrel projects is really going to reduce highway congestion or create a sustainable transportation infrastructure?

well of course it isn’t.

Keep getting boosted to prevent infection from a version of the virus - that is nearly out of circulation - indefinitely? Law of diminishing returns...which only accelerate as time goes on.

I guess a good way to get rid of old stock, though, to push them.

You are lucky, I know a few ( aged 72, 74) that it did kill. Both the same heart problems, then stroke. We just had a coworker die at work after the booster, 58 years old, rumor is brain clots. Wife said he had severe leg cramps for a week and she massaged his legs hours each day- a few days ago he was admitted to the hospital and died. When I started asking questions I was told to be quiet. No way to confirm.
