[partial vanity] It's justifiably time to leave COVID concerns behind, as Omicron largely mimics a common cold, per science.

THIS IS MY INTRO, NOT THE ARTICLE. THUS THE partial vanity label. We've seen from the initial South African Health Ministry discovery of the Omicron variant that Omicron (actually Xi) is a mild but highly infectious pathogen. In other words, a typical corona virus. Omicron rapidly became the globally dominant, endemic strain of COVID19.x Read this article from Time.com (of all places) that properly puts Omicron in its place in the human life experience. It's time to move on from locking down the world and liberties for what essentially is a 'cold'.

Read this article from Time.com (of all places) that properly puts Omicron in its place.

NET: even Liberal #Science authors can see it, and put it in print. It's time to move on from locking down the world and liberties for what essentially is a 'cold'.

Here are some quotes from the article:

"During the Omicron wave, many people are reporting symptoms more in line with a common cold..."

"“this Omicron variant is acting more like a normal coronavirus,” such as those that cause the common cold, says Dr. Stephanie Sterling, an infectious diseases physician at NYU Langone Health."

" the five most common symptoms associated with Omicron are runny nose, headache, fatigue, sneezing and sore throat." ED: Oh the humanity!

"South Africa’s largest health insurer listed nasal congestion, sore or scratchy throat, dry cough and lower back pain as common Omicron symptoms. And a small study from Norway found that, among people in one case cluster, a cough was the most common symptom associated with the variant, followed by runny nose and fatigue."

Dr. Sterling has to keep her A-list invites though, so she said this - "...in areas where Omicron is prevalent, Sterling says, “the second you get respiratory illness, you have to presume it’s Omicron.”" Funny. IT'S ALIVE!!!

"... compared to people infected by the Delta variant, people with Omicron-related infections were about half as likely to seek care in an emergency department ..."

"It’s also not entirely clear whether Omicron is itself milder than other versions of COVID-19, or whether population-level immunity from vaccinations and previous exposures is mitigating some of its worst outcomes ..." <- Dr. Sterling says #truth about population-level immunity there.

But then once again, to keep her A-list invites, Dr. Sterling quickly tacks on "It’s still a good idea to keep up precautions, particularly if you’re not fully vaccinated or are otherwise vulnerable." ED: Of course it is ...

I am personally pretty sure this article as now posted has been edited since published early this AM. I *KNOW* I read it that NO ONE hospitalized with/for Omicron is on a mechanical ventilator. NO ONE.

NET: Omicron is now just part of the endemic respiratory viruses 'out there.' Absent co-morbidities/ pre-existing conditions, it is effectively no longer a SARS and we need to move on.

again, here is the article that generated this semi-vanity. https://time.com/6138293/omicron-symptoms-covid-19/

Full disclosure - I might have been ‘ill’ with Omicron Tues - Thursday of this week. I presented with a chest cough (clears throat) and a [barely] sore throat. I had a gravely voice due to phlegm-induced irritation, no fever, no back ache, no loss of smell or taste.

I wore a mask when I went to the store as a courtesy to others. It’s only polite, and I know how to wear an N-95 mask. THIS week, it made sense to wear one while out.

Now it’s Friday. I am fine. Took a 10 ml dose of generic cough syrup with an expectorant this AM. I am asymptomatic today.

Maybe I DID just have a cold ...

Life needs to go on now.

WHAT???? You didn’t immediately run out & stand in a line for 4 hours (or more) to get a test and find out whether or not you tested positive for COVID???? /sarc

I personally think your response to whatever it was you had was reasonable - 2 years ago, this is what most people with symptoms like you had would be doing. In November, I had ‘something’ that included more symptoms (like aches/chills) - I stayed home & treated myself (did take some ivermectin right away to be on the safe side). I don’t know how we return to ‘sanity’ among the masses .... if ever.

The fascists are not giving up that easily. They are stepping up the lockdowns and curfews. They should stop all that and let “little O” spread. Then the nightmare will be over.

“Omicron” actually IS the common cold, along with any other coronavirus, since the cold virus is a corona virus.

Every year there have been bad colds, mild colds, etc. but they’re all coronaviruses. They mutate like mad, which is why there has never been a cold vaccine.

Keep getting Boosters and it is going to damage your Immune System. The EU and WHO have confirmed it.

Another feel good perspective.

The virus doesn’t care if you are “moving on”. Russian death counts remain devastating. US COVID death counts have averaged 1000-2000 for 5 months now.

Excess Deaths are also devastating, just as they were in March/April 2020 before anyone ran away from doctors. Covid killed those people, and it’s killing people all over the world now.

Ignoring it may be a solid strategy. You’ll feel happy and die whether you ignore it or not (assuming you’re 65+). If under 65, your odds are good whether you’re happy or not.

Define the stats that yield “excess deaths” please.

I am over 65.

Per the World Health Org —

The world’s biggest killer is ischaemic heart disease, responsible for 16% of the world’s total deaths. Since 2000, the largest increase in deaths has been for this disease, rising by more than 2 million to 8.9 million deaths in 2019. Stroke and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are the 2nd and 3rd leading causes of death, responsible for approximately 11% and 6% of total deaths respectively.

Lower respiratory infections remained the world’s most deadly communicable disease, ranked as the 4th leading cause of death. However, the number of deaths has gone down substantially: in 2019 it claimed 2.6 million lives, 460 000 fewer than in 2000.

Neonatal conditions are ranked 5th. However, deaths from neonatal conditions are one of the categories for which the global decrease in deaths in absolute numbers over the past two decades has been the greatest: these conditions killed 2 million newborns and young children in 2019, 1.2 million fewer than in 2000.

Deaths from noncommunicable diseases are on the rise. Trachea, bronchus and lung cancers deaths have risen from 1.2 million to 1.8 million and are now ranked 6th among leading causes of death.

In 2019, Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia ranked as the 7th leading cause of death. Women are disproportionately affected. Globally, 65% of deaths from Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia are women.

One of the largest declines in the number of deaths is from diarrhoeal diseases, with global deaths falling from 2.6 million in 2000 to 1.5 million in 2019.

Diabetes has entered the top 10 causes of death, following a significant percentage increase of 70% since 2000. Diabetes is also responsible for the largest rise in male deaths among the top 10, with an 80% increase since 2000.

>>Define the stats that yield “excess deaths” please.

https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/excess_deaths.htm

Scroll waaaaay down to the Update Dashboard button, but don’t click it right away. Above it to the right is a selection Weekly Deaths By Age. Click that. Then the Update Dashboard button.

Scroll down about an inch and the graphs appear. Those are ALL CAUSES deaths. The last 4 weeks always show an avalanching decline, because death tabulation from all sources takes weeks. So the data is only valid 4 weeks ago.

Don’t know what that is about. #1 cause of Death is cardio relevant only up to 60. Post 60, cancer.
