In November 2020, when University of Pennsylvania graduate student Mackenzie Fierceton won the prestigious and highly competitive Rhodes Scholarship to study at Oxford — one of just 32 scholars selected from a pool of 2,300 applicants — she was praised by the Ivy League school’s president in a newsletter.
“Mackenzie is so deserving of this prestigious opportunity,” declared president Amy Gutmann of the 23-year-old from suburban St. Louis. “As a first-generation [to go to college] low-income student and a former foster youth, Mackenzie is passionate about championing young people [and] dedicating herself to a life of public service.”
But a few months later, Fierceton had lost her prestigious scholarship and was fighting against accusations that she had been “blatantly dishonest” about her childhood in her Penn and Rhodes applications.
Now, the investigation into her story is being revealed by the Chronicle of Higher Education — including the Rhodes committee’s findings that Fierceton “created and repeatedly shared false narratives about herself,” using these “misrepresentations” to “serve her interests as an applicant for competitive programs.”
The case also exposes the murky underbelly of elite schools like Penn and their quest to “show that they’re transforming society rather than laundering its inequalities” by accepting “remarkable” applicants with truly tragic backgrounds, according to the Chronicle report.
Multiple college consultants told The Post that the college application process now features more questions about overcoming obstacles. The 2021-2022 essay prompts from Common App, the organization that oversees undergrad applications for more than 900 schools, include “Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure.”

Her Bachelors is in ‘Political Science’........................
What kind of high school charges tuition?
Sounds like another AOC in the making. They have similar made-up beginnings.
Ok, I have read through every thing and I have seen this behavior before. This girl is a psychopath. Not in the general use of the term, but in the clinical/medical use of the term. She is a conniving, antisocial animal that cares nothing for other individuals and is highly self serving. I have seen a few of these.
The mother has a very hard time giving up on her hell spawn. Her mother has been manipulated for many years. And she wants the best for her child. She probably thinks much of her daughters behavior is her fault or the fault of the divorce. Its not. psychopaths are born not made. Its like the mother is a dog who has bore a wolf.
This women who now calls herself Fierceton will hide behind her good looks and intelligence for the rest of her life, manipulating those around her in ways they will not expect. Mostly because she will go to further extremes. She will scheme for a long while and those around her will give her the benefit of the doubt at first not knowing what she is capable of.
I am sure that Fierceton will leave in her wake a series of lies and ex-friends that will speak very poorly of her.
What’s the problem? She identifies as a poor disadvantaged foster child. The new paradigm is, The Truth What You Want It To Be.”
“Asked what Penn should have done when it received an anonymous email accusing her of fabricating her life story,” Bartlett concludes, “Fierceton has a ready answer: ‘Believed me.’
She should join the FBI where lying is no big deal, even when you lie to Congress. Good retirement benefits too.
Just before Christmas, Fierceton — who changed her last name while in college — filed an explosive lawsuit in Philadelphia Common Pleas Court, claiming the university, its trustees and three Penn officials had participated in a complex conspiracy against her.
She alleges that Penn conducted a “sham investigation” into her background, unjustifiably withheld her master’s degree and wrote a “secret letter” to the Rhodes committee to discredit her. The claim also accuses Wendy White, Penn’s general counsel, of threatening to “come after” both of Fierceton’s degrees if she did not give up her Rhodes Scholarship.
Furthermore, Fierceton claims in her suit that the school conducted its investigation because she had complained to administrators about insufficient access to emergency services at Penn after she had a seizure at school in early 2020.

Another lyin’ Snowflake.
She is the quintessential ‘sociopath’.
My brother was one.
The part you wrote about the mother is exactly the same as it was in our house..........
Nowhere in the article does it say what township she grew up in in the St Louis area. That would do a lot to tell me how disadvantaged she was.
It does sound like there is a lot of contradictory information in her background. She accused her mother of abuse and spent time in foster care. What I can piece together of her background, it is what you could expect from someone with the kind of pathologies to lie about her history to make is more sympathetic. Makes me think of another Rhodes Scholar- Bill Clinton.
That's Senate material right there....
Her diagnosis could also be “Destructive Narcissist”. A very common problem with young adults who were spoiled growing up and then turn into self centered, ungrateful, gaslighting monsters when they get out on their own.
