Here's a tip for all you soon-to-be-centenarians out there: If you want to make headlines, have a good answer locked and loaded for the secret to your longevity. Not something boring like love and happiness; something wild and fun. Examples that have worked in the past: a daily Guinness, Hershey's chocolate, and Johnnie Walker. (Another tip: Plugging a specific brand is a good way to get free stuff!)
Of course, Betty White – who turns 100 on January 17 – doesn't need any help making headlines. And clearly, the lifelong actress knows a thing or two about entertaining answers for interviews. So what was White's response when People recently asked about her dietary regimen at 99 years old? "I try to avoid anything green," she joked. "I think it's working."
That's not to say White didn't also have a slightly more straightforward answer up her sleeve: "I always find the positive," she also told the magazine.
However, it may have been fellow actress Sandra Bullock – who worked with White in the move The Proposal – that spilled the beans on one of White's other big secrets to making it to 100. Bullock told People that she hoped White would celebrate her birthday "the same way she has celebrated every day of her life with humor, kindness and a vodka on ice, toasting to the fact that she's a badass who has left us all in the dust."
Does this imply that White enjoys a daily tipple? It's hard to say. Bullock might just be playing up the humor. And yet, in 2018, White told Parade that she had a love of vodka and hot dogs, "probably in that order." And in 2020, an unnamed friend (ostensibly not Sandra Bullock) told Closer Weekly, "Betty loves to joke that vodka keeps her young" – though the friend later added that White's "not really a big drinker."
Still, a regular drink has worked for Queen Elizabeth II – who turns 96 in April (despite recently being told to cut back). And another thing worth noting: Vodka definitely isn't green.
This might actually happen;
Betty White reading the newspaper: i see Keith Richards died today
Giving him a run for the money here
They’re really jumping the gun on her birthday for quite some time now. I hope she makes it.
Fun Fact:
Betty White used to be Betty Gray, until she fought and defeated the Balrog and was transformed.
I remember when the eagle brought her back.
Quite right. Never eat anything that wasn't born with a face.
Though I have never given it a second thought, she was a bright and funny 18 year old the year I was born. I did think she was bright and funny when I was 25 and hoping I would make it to thirty. And so it has been for the next 57 years...so, now, she contemplates 100 years, bright and funny as she has always been and I am creeping inexorably along toward 83, moaning and groaning...but always looking forward to hearing about her bright and funny exploits. She has always made me laugh...her insights are often brilliant even as she pours more laughter from her soul. Lucky us.
Yes, she’s quite a lady.
I don’t eat vegetables and I am 60. Works for me.
Same with my gramps, he doesn’t like green vodka.
More years ago than I care to admit, I had a friend, Ruth, who had a large kennel attached to her home where she bred, raised, boarded, groomed, bought-and-sold and trained basset hounds for dog shows. Her kennel was located in a Chicago suburb near where I lived.
When Betty White, an avid animal lover and animal rights activist, was done with the California shooting of all episodes of "Golden Girls" in advance of the show's TV season, she would travel the country for months.....and she often was a judge for regional Dog Shows on these trips.
When she was in the Chicago area, she would always drop in to see our mutual friend, Ruth.....and danged if I wasn't invited for tea, sitting with the two of them in Ruth's dining room.....surrounded by three frisky house-bassets baying and begging at our tea table for bites of cookies.
From personal knowledge, Betty White was, and always will be a personable, lovely, intelligent and witty lady.....
.....and to boot, she was a Republican !

Betty is a dog lover which makes her aces in my book.
But, don’t take her for anything more than a Democrat.\
Which diminishes my opinion of her.
Good Woman, and a Leftie.
What a great personal story! That must have been really fun and exciting. It’s always nice to meet famous people and realize they are just plain folks.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful story with us.
Very cool. I briefly met her when I was in the band and we would cruise the “stars’” neighborhoods when we weren’t rehearsing. She was in her front yard, watering the grass & we talked for a while, her an a bunch of long-haired hippies.
At her age, she probably shouldn’t buy any green bananas.
