SALEM, Ore. — Police say they found a body stashed inside a suitcase in the trunk of a car in Salem this week.
While an autopsy determined there was no foul play in the death, officers arrested a suspect who is accused of tampering with human remains.
Officers responded Thursday morning to reports of suspicious activity at a Northeast Salem apartment complex. According to police, a Claxter Court Apartments resident said they saw a stranger come out of another apartment with a large suitcase, which was then placed in the trunk of a car parked in the lot.
The witness told police that the person came out of an apartment belonging to 59-year-old Richard Eugene Flennory, who had not been seen for the last several days.
Investigators found Flennory's car parked at the complex. Upon opening the trunk, they found a suitcase that contained Flennory's body, officials said.
Police said they found two people living in Flennory's apartment. Officers took one of them, 51-year-old Linson Lavell Johnson, into custody for an outstanding parole violation.
Detectives say they learned that Flennory had health issues that may have contributed to his death. A medical examiner determined there was no foul play.
"When Johnson discovered Flennory deceased, he placed Flennory inside the suitcase and into the trunk of the vehicle to avoid a police response," said Salem authorities in a release on the case.
In addition to the parole violation, Johnson was charged with the abuse of a corpse in the second degree.

“While an autopsy determined there was no foul play in the death”
Say what?!
“When Johnson discovered Flennory deceased, he placed Flennory inside the suitcase and into the trunk of the vehicle to avoid a police response,” said Salem authorities in a release on the case.
Great plan.
“Well, he was starting to smell.”
Have these people never heard of a thing called "after dark"?
Was his head attached, or did the body match the head found in the truck in Vegas?
Sounds like Bill and Hillary in the apartment. They have a lot of excess baggage.
I read something about criminals once that always stuck with me.
Criminals are people who do bad things. And they do those things badly.

MODERATOR: Welcome to Celebrity Stalker Anonymous. So, all of you are here because you were arrested for stalking celebrities. It is important to give them space for their own lives. Can someone give me an example of what not to do if you see a celebrity in public?
WOMAN: If...if you see a celebrity eating dinner in a restaurant, you shouldn't interrupt them to get a picture with them so they can enjoy time with their family.
MODERATOR: Good. Anyone else?
MAN: Don't ask them for their autograph...
MODERATOR: Good. Can anyone think of something else you shouldn't do?
CHRIS FARLEY: Umm...don't...follow them to their car, kidnap them, take them home and cut their head off and put in in a jar of formaldehyde in your cellar so you can go down there whenever you want and look at their face?
So, he stashed himself inside a suitcase in the trunk of a car?
