General Motors (GM) plans on going beyond manufacturing a fleet of electric cars, according to an announcement Wednesday regarding electrification component sets, which are capable of converting most old gasoline-powered automobiles into new-age electric vehicles (EV).

The technology will be used for EV conversion projects and GM expects to target a group of diverse commercial clients and enable them to meet their sustainability targets. Electrification components will open up new business avenues and the company estimates a market growth of $20 billion by 2030 with the increasing demand for zero-emissions technology.

“Guided by its vision of a world with zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion..."

Kinda sounds like Husseincare. Should be cheap - no?

In the future, if gas is still available, I see electric cars being converted to gas. Cheaper than buying a new set of batteries when they go bad. $15k or something? Some guy blew up his Tesla when he found out how much new batteries cost. Quite the testament.

https://www.nationandstate.com/2021/12/21/tesla-owner-blows-up-car-after-discovering-cost-to-fix-battery/

Some articles say $17k and some say $22.5k. Both are way more than my blue collar butt ever paid for a used vehicle which is all I can afford. If need be, I’ll build my own electric vehicle using golf cart batteries that cost $125 ea. I doubt I’d need 100($12,500) of them.

There was a guy in Orlando that built his own electric S10 truck and it had a range of 40 miles. I’d have to do a little better than that since I’m rural and town is just over 20 miles away.

Reality is, they just want to reduce the number of people that can drive because personal transportation is freedom. That will drive everyone into the big “smart cities” which won’t be near as nice or smart as they say. You’ll own nothing and be miserable.

Zero congestion... cannot have congestion when every driver is waiting for his car to charge.

I too have doubts about the cncept of electric cars.

But look at our lives today. Almost everything is battery powered on some level. Obviously our cell phones, our I-pads, our vacuum cleaners.....almost all electric things now run on batteries for some period of time and the length of battery time increases.

As for a car, I would be game. Come home, park in the driveway, plug it in to charge, leave it charging all night.

I do believe it will be the norm within the next five years I predict.

Yes, but run slow and don’t drive very far.

Just remember to add the effect of Bidenflation to those dollar amounts you are quoting.

Maybe if we told liberals that hybrid cars are gifts from the unicorns., they would go back to masturbating to Internet porn and leave those of us who live in the real world alone.

I’m thinking a better kit would be to change a modern gasoline engine into an older “points and plugs, no computer” set-up.

My wife’s hybrid Camry does great and it’s a 2010 or 11.

For the most part, zero real trouble.

I think some electronic component for the battery system had to be replaced last year or this one.

Otherwise routine maintenance items.

"I’ll keep my electronic ignition."

I was thinking more in terms of a SHTF situation where simpler is better, but sure, normally fuel injectors and EI and operating computers are the way to go.

Some day we may wish we had an older system.
