Tesla has yet to explain the outage, but the issue appears to span the globe.

Based on several posts on Twitter, it seems that Tesla owners around the world are reporting not being able to connect their phone to their vehicle or, in some cases, not even being able to start the car.

The reports mention an unexplained "500 Internal Server Error," which is, unfortunately, a pretty generic error. The existence of he outage appears to be corroborated by the website DownDetector.com, with 74% of reports of outages referring to the app. Tesla boss Elon Musk responded to one user that he was checking on the issue,...

The true purpose of electric cars is the same as for digital currency and smart meters for power - gov wants to be able to shut you down at a moments notice when they don’t like you.

“What happens when you’re on a long distance trip with your EV and you misjudge the distance to the next charging station and you run out of electricity?”

Interesting story about that... I went to open my repair shop business one morning and found a kid with his EV and adapter plugged into one of my outside outlets on the store front. I busted him stealing power and threatened to call the cops.

He pleaded with me not to and apologized, said he had no choice because he could not make it to the next town. After talking with him he confessed he had been stealing power from the outside outlets of fast food stores and motels all the way across the US on his coast to coast trip.

I thought to myself, “Great... This EV concept has now created a whole new category of criminal theft”.

LOL. Back when our girls were little, we got a battery-powered, drivable Barbie car hand-me-down from neighbors. It had seen better days. Eventually, it would lurch out on its own and drive itself across the basement. We called it “Christine”. :)

A couple weeks ago there was a new Ford stranded at the gas station. He thought it was his beeper thing so I went and bought him a new battery for it. Did not help. He finally was able to find a tech to talk to. Seems the gas station wifi to the pumps interfered with his system. He had to cover the antenna in it so he could get it in neutral. After we pushed it back 100 ft the car started. Tech said it was a problem they were having. Way over my head but what good is a new car if you can’t fill it at a station?

technology mandated in new cars for anti-drinking tests to allow car to start....

Thanks for mentioning it.

Red Eye Radio for truckers had an excellent story on that. If some stupid parts fail elsewhere so can the drunk test. I had to return the cable box and little power converter with it twice-——tech said “Many of these are manufactured with flaws and a lot of them go bad. I see them every work shift.”
Many other tech items are like that.

Good observation.

They are supposedly able to monitor cars 2019 or later that pass light poles with sensors on roads. “You probably visited your illicit lover because after those checkpoints the overhead image showed your car parked there and two human heat scans in the house below.”

New ones will have off switch and governors to keep you from speeding. Saw a work truck with a sign in back “this vehicle cannot exceed 65 mph.” Forgot all about those limiters.

My buddy’s Ford Falcon (1965) didn’t need the sign. It started to shake and shimmy if it passed 60 mph.
