EUGENE, Ore. -- The owner of a Eugene cookie store was assaulted while trying to enforce the mask mandate on Wednesday, police say.
It happened at about 11 a.m. at Crumb Together on Oak Street when a man and woman walked into the business and refused to wear a mask, police said. Police said Ricki Collin, 34, and Amy Hall, 45, both of the Portland area, were arrested and taken to the Lane County Jail after the altercation.

Meanwhile, the owner of the business was taken to a hospital for treatment of her cuts and bruises.
The man involved recorded the incident and shared it live on YouTube on Wednesday.
It begins with the man walking toward Crumb Together, saying he's heard reports the owner was chasing customers out of the store with a baseball bat.
The video shows the two going into the cookie store and the owner is heard saying they can't be in there because they don't have masks on. That's when the man says businesses have to serve the public and the owner repeatedly asks them to leave.
You can see the owner of Crumb Together try to point them to the door. The woman shoves the owner, who goes behind the counter to grab a baseball bat, but the man and woman again refused to leave. In the video, you can see the woman grab the bat, starting a physical fight between the three.
Police said Collin and Hall flagged down officers who were nearby following the assault and provided the video of the incident for officers to review. That's when officers took them both into custody for third-degree assault. Collin was also charged with third-degree robbery for reportedly walking away with the bat.
Back in August, the owners shared how they put out signs about their mask requirement. It said, "Because of the unvaccinated, masks required again. Thank you for your support!"
The owner, Deirdre Steirpe, told KEZI at the time that she'd had enough with those who choose to be unvaccinated.
"I was infuriated, I was angry, you know this has really affected our business and you know as a business owner, freedom of speech and I felt it was necessary," said Steirpe.
In October, owners of the store posted on the Crumb Together Twitter account about issues with prank calls and claiming that an anti-masker pointed a gun in their direction while in a vehicle. To read the thread, CLICK HERE.
EDITOR'S NOTE: The video of the incident has been taken down.
uhh..... congratulations on a false comparison. Their store, their rules. If you don’t like the rules, don’t go in. A pretty simple concept.
I say it depends on the size of the business.
Mom & Pop businesses can have what ever rules they want. Large businesses are public areas and cannot refuse service.
I know the law does not work as such; but they should.
Bingo.
Both parties (all 3) are crazy.
How long is this effing mask thing going to plague us for?
Who would want to go into an establishment like that?
They would probably put poison in the coffee if you wore a MAGA hat.
Myself, I would like to see the entirety of Pacific Oregon get vaporized. /spit.
They both look like Antifa. Why would Antifa attack a liberal store owner over not wearing a mask?
It implies all anti masker / anti vaxers are inbred neanderthals
Not to worry. Eugene’s Monster Cookie Company has many outlets. Good cookies.
No. Because of government overreach. But thanks for being a good little prole.
Agree but shouldn’t the owner be arrested for assault for using the baseball bat?? They guy starts out saying to the owner, “I’m told you chase people out of here using a baseball bat,” and he was correct...
They were either idiots looking for a fight or false-flag lefties just out to make a point. Lock ‘em both up, don’t need their kind regardless.
WRONG. Fire codes are a matter of law and black are a protected class - you can’t discriminate against people because of certain things as spelled out in the EEO laws, and requiring a mask is not one of them.
So your comparison is invalid. The owner can deny service for any reason that is not a violation of law and there’s nothing you can do about it. Owner was in the right here.
Without such rules, for example, I could market my product with their trademarks and sell them on tables right in front of their store.
-They're going to pay their payroll tax
-They're going to abide by fire codes
-They're going to provide handicap accessibility
-They're going serve customers regardless of race or religion
-They're going to collect sales tax where applicable
-They're going follow commercial fire codes
-etc.
Fascism is an unhealthy relationship between some businesses and government where both deprive citizens of their rights.
> Agree but shouldn’t the owner be arrested for assault for using the baseball bat?? <
Not to my way of thinking. The owner went for her baseball bat only after she was pushed hard by the other lady. The arrested man and woman went into that store to provoke the owner. They got what they deserved, IMO.
So, does that make us the Morlocks or the Eloi?
Requiring someone to wear something that interferes with their medical condition is against the law. The store owner doesn't have the right to even ask what the condition is.
...and no, the store owner cannot deny service for any reason that is not a violation of law unless it's applied to everyone, otherwise they are guilty of outright discrimination. The law recognizes that it's not the burden of the individual who was discriminated against to determine what the discrimination was (sex, race, religion, etc.) only that they were discriminated against. A store greeter could tell you as much.
I do. It’s my body.
That’s America.
But, there was no reason for the owner to pull out a baseball bat. Over masks. Sheesh.
The couple was arrested. Maybe she shoved first, she gets the arrest. But one could argue the pulling of a bat was aggression or aggravation of circumstances.
Many here remember a time when, if anyone walked into a store with a mask covering their face, the police were called immediately.
Both have lived around Oregon but the common link is Portland. Looked up some records
Amy is a professional criminal. Mainly small stuff. Theft, Forgery, parole violation etc.
Ricki has a minor record for MJ possession, Reckless endangerment.
So good guess they are most likely Antifa and this was a staged event.
> But, there was no reason for the owner to pull out a baseball bat. <
Remember that the owner went for her baseball bat only after she was shoved hard by that lady. In a way, that arrested lady was lucky. Some store owners I know would have gone for something more serious than a baseball bat.
