Hiker Lost For 24 Hours Ignored Calls From Rescuers Because of Unknown Number

A hiker lost on a mountain in Colorado ignored repeated calls from rescuers — later explaining that they had been unfamiliar with the phone number, authorities said.

The person was reported missing after they didn’t return from an expedition Oct. 18 on Mount Elbert, the highest peak in the state, Lake County Search and Rescue said.

Search crews canvassed the area the following day, but couldn’t find the hiker, officials said.

If you're lost in the woods, even if it's someone giving you a final courtesy call before closing your file on extended auto warranties, take the call, tell them you're lost, and ask them to call local authorities.

If not, then that’s on them.

I’m guessing the hiker was not lost. He was a jerk for not reporting in when he was supposed to, but there comes a time when rescuers ought not to waste their time looking for someone who doesn’t want to be found.

There’s a local guy that lives in his truck. He hangs out at the local lake sometimes. He hates to see the homeless lay-abouts there. Once in a while. he offers to take some of them out hunting mushrooms. They pool all of the money, and split it. He doesn’t even take a cut. On one of his misadventures, one girl got lost. He walked around yelling “Jennifer!” for miles in the Oregon woods. He finally got close enough that he could see her, and he’d been calling, do he asked her “Didn’t you hear me calling?” She said “Yeah.” He looked at her and shrugged “Why didn’t you answer me? She said “ My name is Stephanie.”
