“Against All Odds,” Phil Collins is soldiering on.
A frail-looking Collins finished his first show with Genesis on the group’s “The Last Domino?” tour in Birmingham Monday night, remaining seated throughout the concert.

Collins, 70, sang all of the evening’s tunes from a chair onstage, though he was not alone in that regard: The group’s guitarist Mike Rutherford also opted to play while perched on a stool at points.

The Birmingham show was the first stop on the band’s farewell tour and their first live performance in 13 years since 2007’s Turn It On Again Tour.
In the latest issue of Mojo, Collins said recently that this will be the final chance to see Genesis in concert. “This English and American tour, that will be enough for me,” he said.
Cover Images Collins has struggled with his health in recent years and has been open about his physical issues heading into this tour.
Asked how he’s been prepping for months of three-hour shows, Collins told the Guardian that he hasn’t: “I don’t do anything at all,” he said. “I don’t practice singing at home, not at all. Rehearsing is the practice. These guys [his band mates] are always having a go at me for not, but I have to do it this way.”

I hope to see Steve Hackett, he puts on a good show playing all of the 70s classic Genesis material.
Didn’t he divorce one of his wives via email?
He’s done “Blood on the Rooftops” in the past with a female singer. Great job of it. Genesis never did that song live.
I’m sure he’ll do Fountain of Salmacis- which i saw Genesis do in ‘78 and it was great.
Only Muslims can do that...............
Yep, just compare with recent pics of Peter Gabriel for contrast. I believe Peter pretty much has been a teetotaler most of his life.
Same here. Politics aside, I loved their music.
I was thinking the same.
That's funny since the guy who played drums in Genesis before Phil, was named "John Mayhew", I'm sure that wasn't a coincidence.
I saw Gabriel twice, ‘79 in Central Park and ‘86. ‘79 was great- they started with the drum beat of “Intruder” and the band methodically walked through the crowd onto the stage.
I wouldn’t see Gabriel ever again knowing what a far left winger he is...
That's a great song, too. Actually everything on W&W, with the possible exception of Your Own Special Way is fantastic. Also one of their best songs is "Inside and Out" from the Spot the Pigeon EP, which was their last recording with Steve.
I guess Phil had his little inside joke -- John Mayhew was the guy Collins replaced as drummer in Genesis after the first "classic" Genesis album, Trespass.
I wasn't a big fan, but I liked several of their hits. The TV show Miami Vice wouldn't have been the same without them. But if I were a big fan, I don't think I'd want to watch Phil in such a state on stage either. Too sad.
Collins is past his reparation date for on stage performances. These Hollywood performers of the 60’s plus generation somehow think they can stand the test of time. Better to let the next generations have their shot.
Phil played drums on the album version of “Intruder”.
I know about Peter’s politics. I give him a pass because he actually puts his money where his mouth is, even if I disagree with him. The song “Wallflower” was dedicated to Lech Walesa, so that pretty much makes up for everything else.
Ironic since the song Ripples contains the line: “Angels never know it’s time, to close the book, and gracefully decline”.
Phil should have taken his own advice.
Trick of the Tail/W&W/And then there were three is my favorite Genesis period. Eleventh Earl of Mar was always great live.
Collins hates ATTW3 because he was going through his first divorce with that one. That tour was incredible. The lights, the big mirrors over the drums.
LOL, we’re the real Genesis fans here! BTW Trespass is a great album, probably my second favorite Gabriel-era album after The Lamb.
Ditto. My absolute favorite band of all time (mostly the 70s and early 80s stuff before they quit ProgRock and went more pop), though I haven't quite seen them the number of times you have. Truly some amazing tracks over the years like Cinema Show, Suppers Ready, Home by the Sea, Firth of Fifth, I Know What I Like and other greats that many of the people that started liking them when they went pop are probably not familiar with..
I watched the recent BBC tour special and it's absolutely heartbreaking to see the condition Phil's in. Tony still looks great and remains the "brains" behind Genesis, as well as one of the ten greatest keyboard players of all time. Mike looks somewhere in-between - not great but not Phil level horrible, either.
There are some FB Genesis groups covering the tour. Went to one this AM and saw a ton of videos and pictures. Reviews of the show are mostly positive (even the Guardian and Rolling Stone). Not going as sitting in the middle of 30,000 or so screaming fans during COVID is not something I'm gonna risk even for my favorite band of all time, but like others will fondly remember some absolutely amazing shows from the 70s - 2008..
didn’t he date self hating white girl rosanne arquette forever?
