This is Florida... not a home to criminals.
There’s no problem with the mag dump as far as Florida is concerned.
We’d only question a reload due to budgetary concerns.
I met a cop on medical leave driving a cab. He had been shot with a .22 pistol by a criminal who had just been shot through the heart and both lungs with .00 buck and was still firing. He said the criminal was high on drugs.
I call that criminal justice!!!!

You’re not paying attention. the Video clearly shows that he’s aware of the dude in the back seat, and he orders him to step out of the vehicle. What he didn’t see before the perp got out of the car was the weapon.
It sounds like what rabies does to animals.
I know someone who had to try to take out a rabid raccoon. He emptied his gun into it at pretty close range, and it still didn't stop it.
IIRC, the wife said it was a 357 Magnum.

In any truly civilized country this incident would not have happened because that career criminal would have already been hanged and in the dirt.
As it is, I'm glad the only dead guy was the bad guy. That doesn't happen often enough.

Innocent? They were driving and riding in a vehicle with a thug carrying a loaded weapon.

Sounds obvious but both officers were in a vulnerable situation the moment they exited their vehicle, and law enforcement would be next to impossible if officers never put themselves in vulnerable situations.
In fact one was emphatic that within arms reach you mag dump, period. You don’t get any points for bringing ammo home, only for bringing yourself and your loved ones home.

Well, we certainly don't want you having to do that.
So the other two fellows were A-OK with the police? Interesting, since as far as I've observed in this life, riding around with a guy in the back seat packing a rifle alongside a two year old is not common practice.
But if the sheriff let them go, that's his call. That is all legal in Florida.
The sheriff said in the video that Dep. Potters was shot in the lower leg. Not exactly OK because he also sustained multiple lacerations, a concussion, orbital fractures etc.
Definitely lucky to be alive though.
