A much-needed laugh: A pair of NYPD officers volunteering in Louisiana tried to pronounce some local city and parish names. It went about as well as you'd expect.
Gov. John Bel Edwards declared that the Big Apple cops “get a pass” for butchering enunciations of local locations — and expressed gratitude for their work — on Twitter.

I worked with an Englishman from the Isle of Man.
"England and America are two countries separated by a common language"
And I’ve always heard that people are confused about Louisiana, in that the local governmental entities called “counties” in other states, are called “parishes” in Louisiana.
Ha, ha. If you ever come across the motorcycle races from the Isle of Man on TV, stop and watch for a while. Incredible!
And they probably still have a few Manx speakers there as well.
“Youse guys talk funny.”
Tchoupitoulas Street is always good for fun. If someone can pronounce that, they probably know their way around the Big Easy.
Very cute.
That headline was butchered. I had no idea what that meant until I read the article.
It works both ways. If you sent some Louisiana cops to New York City to handle the devastation there, you can be sure they would have a great deal of trouble with all those foreign names people have in the Big Apple.
I guess they’re not beating up little old defenseless women and taking their guns this time. Oh wait, sorry, that was the California State Troopers.
Chop a too lis
Pennsylvania has Boros, Townships, and Cities within Counties.
For example, I live in Thornbury Township, outside of West Chester Boro, in Chester County PA...
I can tell a woman that speak Manx by sight. I just check out their tails. (ducking)
—” the motorcycle races from the Isle of Man “
Very familiar with the race.
Superfast on OLD NARROW public roads!!!
Notice very few big-name sponsors?
Best not to have your name out front if something very bad happens.
“Since the inaugural race in 1907, there have been over 255 deaths on the race course. In 2016 alone, five riders died during practice and race weeks. Dangers abound at every single twist and turn of the road during this race.”

I rode AMA dirt for many years.
I imagine a Texan in NYC would have trouble getting directions to Houston Street if he asked the locals verbally. It works both ways.
I don’t want to ever go to NYC again.
Me, too. And I've never even stepped foot in the city.
shoulda ask them to pronounce pecan...
