And I’ve always heard that people are confused about Louisiana, in that the local governmental entities called “counties” in other states, are called “parishes” in Louisiana.

Alaska has boroughs instead of counties.

Not only Louisiana. I visited kin in Tennessee and was told they lived on Batroo street.

What?

Then came the explanation. It was pronounced Batroo but spelled Baton Rouge.

49 states have counties. LA has parrishes.

49 states law system is based on English law.

LA’s law system is based on Napoleanic code. From France.
