TL;DR
tldr;
You cool kids know all of the slang.
Dealing with bureaucracy has to be the worse experience ever. Hope your meeting goes well. At least not so bad as jail time for acting like I would.
1. DO NOT GO TO YOUR LOCAL OFFICE WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENT. Because of COVID, you have to have an appointment.
2. Do not call on a Monday; everyone else will be calling too. Call on Wednesday after the office has been open about an hour; that should cut your time on hold.
3. Not knowing the reason they’re cutting off the Social Security, it’s hard to say what the next step should be. I would suggest filing an online non-medical appeal. https://secure.ssa.gov/iApplNMD/start
4. A friend of mine had a similar issue earlier this year (getting a letter saying his SS was being stopped). Turns out, he had incorrectly told SS he was getting earned income every month when he also retired at 62. He hadn’t been; he misreported his defined benefit pension. Once he provided the information/proof he wasn’t working, they reinstated his SS *and* calculated his backpay for what they withheld the past 3 years due to his *earned* income. He didn’t even miss a month of SS.
Not saying that’s the reason for your situation, just a suggestion of what can happen. Oh, and he never went to the office; it was all done over the phone.
I have actually found the ss people to be very good. You often get the best service on the phone after you make up.yout online account. Good luck
I know people on SS disability for legitimate and serious disabilities. People who need a lot of medical care and have no way of paying for it. It’s a total mess dealing with the SSA.
yeah its probably a simple straight forward thing to resolve.
its a similar situation to when you get a letter from the IRS. Write an informative response and they are satisfied.
Thanks for the tips. I will do that
You left identifying info on that picture! The BNC number and the QRC barcode. Suggest you ask the mods to delete your post.
I work for a state agency, so I understand your frustration. I don’t deal with SS but I do deal with Medicare on the fringes so I have a nodding acquaintance with both.
If you can’t get it resolved, then my next suggestion would be contacting the local (not DC) office of your Congressman. They have people who help with constituent issues; I’ve been on the receiving end of those contacts. Put your tax money to work.
Good luck!
But are you SURE this letter is LEGIT and not an elaborate SCAM to extract more personal information from you? I guess that if you did not receive your payment it is legit but perhaps some sort of shenanigans stopped your payment to begin with?
I wish you the best. Prayin' for ya!
Well, everyone has lots of problems.
I am glad to hear that you are a good Christian. But telling us that sort of might negate your reward. (Do your good deeds in secret ...)
Anyway, I am not so sure that I would say that you were being a good steward by selling property for $200k less than it was worth. Maybe ... God was giving you a way to recover that $50k per year that went away.
I get it that we are all in a lot of hurting. And it will likely get much worse pretty fast.
Hope that you can see God’s hand in what is going on. It is very hard for many of us.
I removed them all
but thanks for the concern. Serious. Thanks.
Thanks I’ll keep that in mind as I go through the process of getting things cleared
It’s legit. It came with other paperwork. I just shared what you see, and removed all pertinent info.
But thanks for the concern
At 65, my SSD changed to regular SS. That is, instead of it being paid out of the disability part, it is now paid out of regular SS. The amount did not change.
As their letter said, contact them. That is the only way you will know what is going on.
Sorry to hear of all this. Bureaucracy is something that easily sends me off the deep end. I’ll pray on it.
Oh, and do a couple shots of whiskey before going into the SS office. Won’t help help solve the problem, but may help putting up with the bullshit.
