White Screen Of Death . 3rd time in a month ( need PC help/advice ) .

Bought a new Lenovo All-In-One back in January here in Japan . Worked like a champ until the end of last month . As I was clicking on a news story on Yahoo Japan the screen suddenly went all white . My wife called Lenovo telephone support ( which is in Japan and one speaks to Japanese not Chinese ) and they had her change a power setting of some sort . Then on August 8th it happened once again when I was watching a video on Youtube . She called again and this time Lenovo said it was a Microsoft / Windows update problem and not the computer . They offered no other help at that time . Well , it just happened again a few minutes ago . White screen / no audio . Reboot and all is OK . I'm a computer dummy so please bear with me . Wife is out now but when she gets home I'll have her call once again . In the meantime , I was wondering if anyone here has experienced or heard of this problem .

I would recommend a clean install. Your device probably has a built-in system restore utility.

Back up all your important files and run it.

I do it once a year on all my computers.

Have you had your computer vaccinated for RONA? Do you have a mask on when you use it? Do you have a mask on the computer as well?

Thanks for the reply . This PC is just 6 months old . I purchased the best warranty plan for 3 years . I feel Lenovo Japan should help me through this . My Japanese isn’t good enough for me to deal with Lenovo on the phone re: computers so my wife has to call . She knows as little as I do about them ! Hehe...Anyway , I’ll see what they say THIS time and post back later .

Good luck with that.

I personally prefer fixing things myself whenever possible rather than being dependent on tech support robots who don’t know much more than you and are just following a script.

I am not 100% certain, but I believe Lenovo is an ancient Japanese word meaning, “full of CCP spyware“.

Firefox used to be my go-to, but when they started pushing out all those updates and diddled with the UI, I ditched them for Brave. A shame, they used to be a good browser. I can find the older versions at oldapps.com, but even if you turn the updates off, it still jacks up your Internet interface. Not to mention it doesn’t support all the newer plugins that websites seem to change weekly.

I’ve had several of these and it appears to be a memory issue. I had too many windows open.

Try alt-control-delete, open your task manager, and go through your google or whatever browser you’re using, and terminate individual pages that are using too much memory (assuming you, like me, have hundreds of tabs open). Or look for any applications that are using too much memory.

Something else that causes this problem for me: My laptop tends to unplug real easy. When it unplugs, it goes to a lower power setting, meaning slower system. It gets slow, can’t handle what I’m doing, and then blue screens me.

You might check your power plug on that laptop, make sure it’s always secure. Maybe unplug it and plug it back in to make sure it’s secure.

All that said, I’m no IT guy. Just sharing what I do to solve the problem on my laptop, except I use a fancy Alienware laptop to play games and such occasionally.

BTW - using Microsoft Edge browser . Maybe that’s is where the problem is .

” You might check your power plug on that laptop”

It’s an all-in-one desktop .

Don’t be surprised if just one of them is draining all your memory. Sometimes there are websites that have tons of advertisements and then I take a look and it’s using like 2gbs of memory. Facebook and sometimes Zerohedge does this to me.

Make sure your graphic driver is the latest. If it is, completely remove and reinstall it anyway.

The current graphic driver must be completely removed, and sometimes Windows fails at that. You may be able to find some freeware which cleans out the old driver if Windows is unable.

When I uninstalled a graphic card a few months ago I had that issue and was able to find forums which discussed it and linked to the removal software. The way you know you have the zombie driver issue is when the new driver doesn’t “take”.
