Audi brand had acoustics engineers develop software to customize the sounds of the new e-tron GT electric sports car, which meld sounds from 32 sources, including a model helicopter and a fan blowing over a piece of plastic pipe. The result is a whirring sound that morphs as the driver accelerates.
One of the reasons EVs have a big future is because they are much simpler to build than ICE cars. They take about half the total hours, and those hours are less skilled than traditional car making.
As battery prices fall that will make an EV with the same specs much cheaper than a gas powered vehicle.
If you park an electric vehicle in your garage, make sure your fire insurance is up to date and covers that kind of fire.
Nothing will replace the sound of a big block..
nothing.
I’ve been seriously considering an electric powered generator for when we lose electricity here.
For the UAW to prevail, workers would have to vote yes, and wages likely would be far lower than at a car factory. Other battery plants typically pay $15 to $18 an hour, compared with a top hourly wage of around $30 for a UAW-represented worker at an assembly plant.
The way things are going, only the wealthy will be able to drive which is what I think they want. The roads are too crowded with us lowly peons.
I think I’ll wait for di-lithium crystals
Unless we become more efficient at harnessing safe nuclear power or discover some other energy source, ICEs will continue to dominate. I think rubber tires will be a thing of the past for road travel, if not roads in general. Personal transportation has been in a rut long enough.
Another reality impacting transportation is the ability to have satisfying travel experiences without even leaving home, like, LSD, man. LOL. Seriously though, the reasons for travel may be lessening as many experiences and goods can be delivered (yes, vehicularly - although micro maglev infrastructure could impact that, too).
Subsurface micro-maglev delivery systems would be interesting.
Gonna make it just like playiing a video game.
My new RAM 1500 Pickup has an eTorque Hemi, so it’s “sort of” a Hybrid. At least that’s what I tell people when they ask. I just need to get a Hybrid Graphic to put on it.
I have nothing against Electric Vehicles. The problem is poor people won’t be finding any used and abused $500 Electric junkers when they need a Car for basic transportation.
No problem though, I’m sure the DEMONCRATS will pony up the money for their Voters. Maybe they should design a People’s Electric Car.
I don’t know about having a car assembled by minimum wage workers. No experience necessary?
The moronic SOBs have NO IDEA what the Law of Conservation/the 1st Law of Thermodynamics consists of. Plus, it was discovered/promoted by a bunch of “white guys” so it must be completely evil and untrue.
But, hey, if it makes em “feel good” and that they’ve “done something”, give the dumb bassturds another pudding pop and capitalize on their stupidity..
I’m sure Mr. Penkevich did a great job with GM, or he wouldn’t have lasted there for a half century. He probably was not, though, classified as an ‘engineer’. Engineering classifications there have an additional word such as ‘test’, ‘project’, or ‘development’ engineer. There are no titles of ‘engineer’. I’m sure his work was quite important, even vital, but I doubt that it was the kind of assignment that would give him the insight to predict the future.
The electric car and truck will not destroy the ICE.
Not even close.
The mere idea of it is ludicrous.
They are urban vehicles only and they will blow up the power grid, severely limiting their desirability long term.
They will be making electric cars with engine sound speakers on the outside...
I’m a mechanic and I see electric cars as the way things will go.
The government needs to stay the hell out and let the market handle it.
We could end up with very very clean running diesel and coal plants across the land to provide all this electrical demand.
Actual emissions will probably end up a bit better or worse.
I just don’t want my car to sound like an electric drill....and I don’t want an unreasonable power bill....wait...already have.
i don’t want to talk a about gas prices...Thanx globalist! Death to the globalist mafia!
Ignorant Politicians are the ones that will destroy everything thinking they can predict the future
The new Jaguars have a switch on the dash that you can flip which, I think, changes the airflow of the exhaust to make it louder if you like.
Well hell...back in the 50s as a ten year old lad I was experimenting with multiple baseball cards on front and rear forks of my bicycle...finally settled on an 8 card arrangement with some double card units....sweet!
...and they were renewable and free.
Over all, I have no problem with electric motors. They’re small, light, simple, clean and quiet. Not to mention, torquey as hell.
The only problem today, is the energy storage. It’s just not there yet. It needs quick charge rates, long range and service life and it needs to be able to handle a wide thermal range cold to hot. Reliability and safety is paramount.
