Breakthrough infections, or COVID-19 cases diagnosed after someone is fully immunized, were supposed to be rare - at least that's what a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggested in May. At the time, data indicated that just 0.01% of vaccinated Americans got a breakthrough case from January to April.
But that was before the more transmissible Delta variant became the dominant strain in the US.
The share of breakthrough infections also inevitably rises as more people get vaccinated - though it's hard to know how many of these cases occurred since the CDC report came out. The agency stopped tracking asymptomatic, mild, or moderate breakthrough cases on May 1.
Though the current vaccines still protect against Delta, the chances that you'll know someone with a breakthrough case, or develop one yourself, are higher than they've ever been.
But most disease experts still expect COVID-19 to be milder in vaccinated people, regardless of the variant.
"The variants may cause you to still maybe get an infection, but not serious," Peter Gulick, an associate professor of medicine at Michigan State University, told Insider in June. "It would be almost like getting an infection with the common cold or one of those nagging things that gives you sniffles and a cough and makes you feel a little tired, but nothing serious enough to put you in the hospital or put you on a ventilator."

They can rationalize it all they want... that vaccine isn’t 99.9% effective. All they are doing now is redefining things.
Vaccines are a very personal matter, as is health care in general.
You cannot make a one size fits all shoe, and arguments like herd immunity are BS from the onset. If we really embraced the idea of herd immunity (used to argue for a collectivist and centralized approach), then we should also acknowledge that this can be reached naturally and we likely were already there when we began rolling out the vaccine months ago!
***The reason why this “standard of care” has destroyed US health care is because it is Americas version of rationed, standardized, and COST CONTROLLED health care.
If you have diagnostic code XYZ, you will get medication ABC or procedure HIJ. Deviation from the standard of care is little because the physician will potentially expose himself to risk and insurance will not pay. Besides, ignorance on the side of the patient that is not a subject matter expert and not knowledgeable of all possible alternatives and time constraints as well as apathy on the side of the physician usually go the path of least resistance.
However, specific to vaccines, how does one create a one size fits all solution considering: different ages, races, sexes, occupations, travels, sexual behaviors, medical conditions, BMI, use of tabaco, booze or drugs? These are variables that either determine probability of infection or magnitude of damage = risk.
There are even more variables but these are entirely ignored by insurance and government bureaucrats, like the patients personal acceptance of risk and values. Should you recommend a vaccine based on fetal stem cells to someone Eastern Orthodox?
***You are the patient, it is your body, your risk, you need to live with the outcomes/consequences.
***You are the customer, it is your money that is paying for this, it is your time.
In America’s health care system today, YOU do not really have a say anymore, the standard of care (mostly defined by the NIH, CDC, FDA and DEA) essentially decide what you get, but you’re supposed to pay for it.
The era of private health care in America has already ended. So large is the government stake in the market and it’s influence through Medicaid, Medicare, the VA and a plethora of other programs, that government is shaping the market. Even for those in the so-called private market place, the “standard of care” defines what people get. Today, America’s health care system serves the insurances, big pharma, some government bureaucracy like the NIH (they have seen a lot of growth), but no one is really asking nor even concerned with what the consumer really wants. The consumer in America pays the most of anyone on earth, because he’s still subjected to insurance companies, pharma with few cost controls, etc. but what he gets is rationed and he has little self-determinism in his care.
***In the grad scheme of things, this debate over vaccines, how it’s managed, paid for, if it should be mandatory... is really a bigger ideological issue. Folks choose sides based on if they support a government/socialized health care system which is an idea that has become very popular in America, or a private free market system where consumers have choices.

So, I don’t remember ever hearing that when you get vaccinated for anything, you could still get it, just a milder case. Like the polio vaccine - I never heard you could still get it, just not as bad. When my kids were getting the MMR shots, they never said that they could still catch the measles, just milder. Help me here, do I just not remember being told that?
Curious how they ramp up the fear and control as we enter a new election cycle. Rallies are coming that will be deemed super spreader events.

COVID-19 must require exposure to television screens and/or radio signals because the Amish are immune to it as well.
My wife read an article about a diamond mine in Africa that had a covid event which was very interesting. Several members of one shift had either been vaccinated or had already had covid.
In the last couple of weeks all the the vaccinated on this shift have come down with the so-called Delta variant and they worked in close quarters during this time. However, not a single worker who had already had covid had been infected or shows any symptoms period. Fascinating...
