Researchers say lingering symptoms could put a strain on health care systems

While some health experts say the emergence of the COVID-19 Delta variant may soon lead to a spike in deaths, researchers say severe cases of the virus may not be the only cause for concern. Researchers from the University of Zurich say over a quarter of people who were infected with COVID-19 in 2020 reported feeling lingering symptoms up to eight months after they were first diagnosed. They say the existence of long-term physical and mental health problems could put a strain on health care systems around the world.

“These findings underline the need for the timely planning of healthcare resources and services tailored to the needs of individuals suffering from post-COVID-19 syndrome,” the researchers stated.

Lingering symptoms

The researchers came to their conclusions after analyzing health outcomes in 431 participants who tested positive for COVID-19 between February 2020, and August 2020, and were part of a contact tracing system in Switzerland. Several months after each person’s diagnosis, they completed an online questionnaire about their health.

The researchers found that 26% of the participants reported not feeling fully recovered 6-8 months after they were infected with COVID-19. Just over half (55%) said they still felt symptoms of fatigue, a quarter experienced shortness of breath, and just over a quarter (26%) had symptoms of depression.

Researchers are currently working on solutions for people with lingering COVID-19 symptoms. In late June, researchers were able to mix two monoclonal antibodies to help cure the longest known coronavirus case, which had lasted nearly 300 days. While the treatment has not been approved, the success could inspire future innovations that will help others who still suffer from COVID-19 long after they have recovered from more acute symptoms.

Long term symptoms no big deal. In the long term we ALL will be dead anyways, no exceptions. Even Bill Gates, Dr Fauci and Jeff Bezos the richest man in world will all be dead in 20 years or less. Just take chance on not getting infected. Do not bother with vaccines. Better to die from covid than from the vaccines.

I lost my smell for 5 months and when it can back certain things smelled weird for at least another month or so. Some smell and taste sense were super sensitive .

My wife and I had it in January/February of 2020 before it had a name and survived without doctor visits or drugs, and I have the antibodies to prove it.

Your sense of smell & taste are in part based upon memory (i.e. the brain). Multiple people I’ve spoken to have reported brain fog and memory issues following participation in the experimental procedure.

Food for thought. I suggest paying very close attention to the changes.

I have to wonder what we would discover about the flu if we gave it the same over-the-top scrutiny that the Wuhan virus has received. Would we find that many or all of the “unusual” effects that are claimed for COVID have been occurring all along with more mundane viruses?

Our family’s experience was similar. None of us got very sick at all. Only one of us had a small fever. No one else in the family did. No one had any difficulty breathing. I was running and working out two days in. We did lose our smell and taste, but it came completely back 2 weeks later. Absolutely zero long term effects.

It was far less severe than any flu I’ve seen.

We all have antibodies though, and my antibody level was double what is typically brought on with the first dose of an mRNA vaccine.

Everything changes with the relization that COVID is *not* a pulmonary disease, like influenza, but is a vascular disease, more like herpes or chickenpox. That is, a lot of COVID symptoms make no sense if you think it a pulmonary disease.

But being a vascular disease explains things like darkened toes in children, heart inflammation, conjunctivitis, GI tract issues including very intermittent brief vomiting, and problems with smell and taste.

And the worry, like herpes or chickenpox, is that a person might have small outbreaks for years, or a great outbreak when they are older, like Rosacea.

No memory issues or brain fog. Like I mentioned earlier my taste came back in about 3 days…smell close to 5 months but it’s about back to where it used to be but it’s more sensitive. Meaning I can taste or smell things others can’t until I point it out. Which is weird, I used to have a horrible sense of smell.

One of my buddies has been suffering nerve damage and pain for months after catching it. He was otherwise very healthy, under 40. I find that a bit worrisome.
