The condition — officially called "cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome" but now known to health care workers as "scromiting," a mashup of "screaming" and "vomiting" — has popped up with increasing frequency at hospitals in Colorado, doctors say.
“The only thing that convinced me was that it stopped when I stopped smoking,” said Gribbon, now 20.
“We use up a lot of medical resources to see if there is anything more seriously wrong with them,”
Scromiting cases have increased as pot has become far more powerful, according to doctors. Experts say the marijuana consumed 20 years ago had levels of THC, the main psychoactive ingredient, of 2 percent to 3 percent, but cannabis products now sold in markets like Colorado can have THC levels as high as 90 percent.
An increasing share of Colorado’s $2 billion cannabis market is made up of concentrates or other products with high levels of THC

Nor common.
Because he’s not smart enough to just smoke less weed?
I’m in roughly the same boat as you. Totally lost any desire to smoke that stuff now.
Some years back, I watched my nephew who at 14 was pretty much the all-American boy get ruined by pot. A now-grown man, he’s on disability for schizophrenia living with my wife’s sister. It’s not as harmless as many believe especially with today’s potency.
a man’s got to know his limitations... 😎
Nancy (Reagan) said it years ago, sometimes you have to take responsibility for yourself and Just Say No!!
I would assume people develop a tolerance for smoking 15% thc pot. As they use more potent pot to get high the tolerance increases. It looks like lower potency pot is the gateway to the 90% concentrate. From another thread I read it appears Colorado has the cheapest dope around. Easy, relatively cheap availability of 90% thc concentrates, what could go wrong? As a young man I did smoke, I guess 5% thc pot. How one can regularly ingest a drug twenty times more potent than that which left me null and void, I don’t understand.
“I won’t go schizo, will I?”
I was given a capsule with about a rice sized thing of RSO. It was my first time. I was using it to self treat my cancer. I took it at about 1 pm, took a nap for a couple of hours and was heading to the Casino to watch The Guess Who. We made it about 5 miles, and I literally could not track what I was saying to my wife/mate. When I tried I could see my words printed out before my eyes. I was screaming turn around turn around. We got home I walked like I had drunk a fifth of tequila. I had the dry heaves for a few and finally went to sleep. MJ is a Killer to me. I lost my sheet. Others tolerate that much as an every hour thing. Not me.....
The same thing happened to a relative of mine. And, it ruined his lungs. He died young.
I am convinced due to societal acceptance off recreational drug use we’ve ratchetted up the number of people with “social pathologies” in society. Just look around you, watch the news way way many people have problems handling the normal ups and downs of life. Many who were near the “edge”, recreational drug use has moved them past that threshold. Do I have a solution? No I do not! Do I want draconian laws to return ? No I don’t ! It’s and observation and a speculative conclusion. I make sadly.
That’s a shame.
I have a whole cabinet of various strains both indica sativa and hybrids but only use a concentrate once in a great while if the strain potency is too low.
All products have state mandated test results so no guesswork required.
Some of the concentrates are several years old. Bubble hash in the mix somewhere….
Scromiting. Do a keyword search. You’ll see articles going back to 2017. This is not a new phenomenon, this is old news.
Yet dope heads are not deterred, they keep scromiting on.

Personal responsibility? If not dead, clearly dying.
It is always someone else that is responsible.
“The Framers did not pioneer the concept of man as a personally responsible agent. That notion, arguably the greatest of all Western ideas, dates to line 32 of Homer’s Odyssey, where Zeus asks people to stop blaming their bad choices on the gods.”
Mark Riebling
it’s pretty common in hospital ERs. occasionally we have to admit them for IV hydration. Of course they never believe it’s the marijuana causing it….
What about us older smokers?
I read about this exact thing years ago. Not really new. Real, but not new.
—“I won’t go schizo, will I?”
The quote was familiar, couldn’t place it?
The internet knew!
Pinto: “I won’t go schizo, will I?” Jennings: “It’s a distinct possibility.”
Weed linked to psychotic episodes? Imagine that!
Shizophrene. In most cases, it does not last.
