Can Europe escape Gazprom's energy stranglehold?
Deutsche Welle ^ | 07.11.2021 | Andrey Gurkov

Trouble is brewing on the European gas market. In the wake of a long, cold winter, natural gas reservoirs are unusually low and should, in principle, be refilled very quickly. Russia’s state-owned corporation Gazprom could increase supplies.

The market leader, however, has not done that, despite prices recently reaching a 13-year high. In turn, there is growing concern across Europe that there may be insufficient gas supplies for the upcoming winter.

Gazprom has not booked any additional gas transit through Ukraine in July, although deliveries of Russian natural gas to the EU will drop by more than 2 billion cubic meters this month.

Due to scheduled maintenance, the two remaining transportation routes to Germany will be temporarily discontinued. The Yamal pipeline across Belarus and Poland was shut down this week, and the much larger Nord Stream pipeline through the Baltic Sea will be closed between July 13 and July 23.

“It appears Gazprom not only optimizes price and quantity, but that it would rather exert pressure in order to ensure completion of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline,” Joachim Endress, head of the Berlin-based consulting firm Ganexo, observes in his second-quarter 2021 Gas Market Report.

Gazprom insists that it fulfills all its obligations. …

Trump offered them an alternative, but their hatred made them turn that down. Now Biden is colluding with Russia, and they complain.

Funny how they worry about freezing during a “long, cold winter” and then blather about “global warming” out of the other sides of their mouths.

Nordstream allows them to cut the Washington DC grifters and sticky fingers Ukraine out of the mix. That’s why DC is squealing so much. DC has no problem with Germany using Russian gas as long as it passes through Ukraine. Now that Russia has found a way to completely bypass Ukraine and go direct to the customer, the cash cow has stopped for Biden, Kerry, Romney, Pelosi’s son etc.

Then why did Biden help the process along?

Truth is that this gives all the power to Germany and Russia. Why else would someone like Gerhard Schröder be involved?

And are you actually accusing Trump of wanting to help Biden, Kerry, the Pelosis etc. by using sanctions to stop Nord Stream II??

Plus, anything that makes Europe more dependent on Putin is good, eh?

Interesting difference between Russia and China. We are told that China who wants world domination must be engaged in massive trade. This, we are told is the only way to make them become more free, and to spread our values ( whatever those are anymore)
But with Russia we are told the only way to deal with them is to impede them participating in commerce and to isolate them.

So which is it? How do you make a nation more enlightened and free? Do you engage them or cut them off?
In DC, Gomorrah on the Potomac, the answer depends on the bribes available.

I’m confused. I thought that the greenie-weenies over there had transitioned to wind power, solar power, and unicorn power. So why do they need Russian natural gas?

This sounds like a Rooskie plot to just make Greta Thunberg angry. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if this guy was behind it all:

Consider that Biden made trade more open with both China and Russia now, although to the EU’s advantage and (always) the USA’s detriment. Trump was the one who advocated sanctions on both, and the liberal media decried him for allegedly causing “trade wars!”

Due to global warming, obviously Europe needs no natural gas for heat. So all gas supplies can be cut off, and they can rely on solar on cloudy winter days.

Let’s keep in mind Holland has one of the 10 largest natural gas fields in the world, as well as smaller fields; Germany has Geothermal plants in the Vulcan Eiffel that tap heat from dormant volcanoes.

“long, cold winter”

Wait, what?

I thought the glaciers were melting and the Munich was going to be like Tucson.

Now you tell us it’s cold?!

Shocking.

Islam will destroy Europe long before Russia will. None of it should be our concern. Why are we still paying for their defense when they are bent on destroying themselves?

“Yeah. LNG terminals with ant gas from the US.”

The inability to transport natural gas has left it cheap and abundant for Americans. Is it to our advantage to export to the rest of the world?

In that case, Trump is trying to promote American products, and he simply did not have the power to prevail over the neocons. Same story in the Syrian war.
The alternative is to give much power to Ukraine, which allows Washington DC to get their hands on the money involving transit. It also guarantees Ukraine access to gas that they frequently do not pay for. They steal because Russia cannot stop the flow without impacting the end customer.
Ukraine has done massive damage to our country in the last eight years, infesting the state department, the military, and the DC establishment. Half of the impeachment witnesses had Ukraine connections. They have too much power over our foreign policy.

In any case, if I was a German, I would rather get the gas directly from the pipeline. With the ascendancy of the AOC crowd in America, structuring your whole infrastructure around American gas is not a good bet.
Putin could cut off their gas, but that hurts him just as bad. It would be like Guatemala cutting off our bananas. Yeah, we would have a banana crisis. Guatemala would have an income crisis.

Trump tried to make lemonade out of the neocon lemons. That’s about it.
