The campaign to scare the world into adopting unprecedented abridgments of civil liberties to fight a purported pandemic that threatened unthinkable levels of casualties had a lot of help from the officials charged with counting the death toll. Most readers of American Thinker are familiar with anecdotes such as the motorcyclist who died in a crash but was counted as a "COVID death" because he had a positive test for antibodies. An audit by two Minnesota state legislators late last year estimated that COVID deaths in that state were overcounted by about 40%. But, on the other hand, an audit in Kentucky last March added about 10% to that state's death toll allegedly due to COVID. And an audit this month in India has added substantially to the death toll in the northern state of Bihar.
Now comes news, via America's Frontline Doctors, of an actual judicial decision on the true extent of COVID deaths in Portugal. Mordechai Sones writes:
Following a citizen's petition, a Lisbon court was forced to provide verified COVID-19 mortality data, reports AndreDias.net.
According to the ruling, the number of verified COVID-19 deaths from January 2020 to April 2021 is only 152, not about 17,000 as claimed by government ministries.
All the "others" died for various reasons, although their PCR test was positive.
"We live in a fraud of unprecedented dimensions," wrote Dias.
Normally, judicial rulings are based on the highest standard of evidence. But I am not able to read the supporting documents in Portuguese, and I cannot tell what procedures were used in gathering and weighing evidence. But my first instinct would be to believe a judicial ruling over figures gathered by politicians and the bureaucrats that report to them (and who, in many cases, have seen their powers vastly enhanced ).

I think it’s more telling that a COURT found this. The question here is if the media or even the population will believe it or brush it off as “advocacy” on the part of the courts in Portugal?
Apparently this is a misunderstanding of the document:
“It says – in Portuguese – that between 2020 and 2021, “152 certificates were issued by doctors working for the Ministry of Justice, whose primary cause of death was the coronavirus”. It is this quote that is used to show that the official balance sheet would be well below the figures released by the health authorities.
However, Internet users forget to note important information. In this sentence, it is clearly specified that the court only takes into account the certificates issued by these famous “doctors who work for the Ministry of Justice”. However, they represent only a fraction of the people authorized to produce these certificates.”

May as well produce a document that says “152 death certificates from COVID came from a doctor named Fred”. Okay, that’s neat, but it doesn’t mean anything.

All these Covid Deaths yet the annual Death Rate in America remains constant. How can that be?

Point at Biden and say “We live in a fraud of unprecedented dimensions,” I feel a bit Portuguese already. If they push back against this international use of the pandemic to undermine the rule of law, I think the Portuguese should be proud.
Will the Portuguese actually do anything about this? How about thousands of bureaucrats lose their jobs? Would we or anyone want some un-elected conspiratorial fraud apparatchik to continue to corrupt our government?
Isn’t time to start a “fundamental” governmental reform movement, that translates into law, and at least the firing of any and all of the people who conspired to destroy Portugal, or the United States? These bureaucrats deserve prison, they should feel lucky to only be unemployed.

OK, did they ONLY examine 152 cases? Or did they examine others? The other government ministries claimed that 17,000 died from Covid ( as per the article ). Did they examine most of the 17,000, or did they only examine a subset of that? if a subset, how many?
Of the 17,000 death certificates issued where COVID-19 was determined to be the cause, 152 came from the subset of officials who investigate criminal cases. It sounds like they had some deaths where some criminal element was suspected, but the deaths turned out to be natural causes (COVID-19), as I’m sure happens frequently.
The rest of the 17,000 were issued by doctors who are not working for the Ministry of Justice. The Ministry of Justice has no reason to go through and review death certificates for diseases, heart attacks, etc. when no criminal element is suspected in the case. That’s not their job.

Now let’s see what actually happened:
Number of deaths in the US in 2018: 2,839,205 (https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/databriefs/db355.htm)
Number of deaths in the US in 2019: 2,854,838 (https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/databriefs/db395.htm)
Number of deaths in the US in 2020: 3,389,700 (https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/COVID19/index.htm)
So in 2020, there was an increase of 534,862 total deaths. You’ll notice that from 2018 to 2019, there was a 0.5% increase in total deaths in the United States. The normal range is 0.3% - 0.7%. In 2020, there was an 18.7% increase over 2019. That’s unheard of outside of incredibly extreme situations. Like World War II.
In that case I stand corrected.

You can’t get people to believe the government’s own statistics.
People I have talked to insist they are well informed except they never spout a single statistic or engage in meaningful dialogue, which informs me they are still listening to the news.

The government stats from CDC ought to be enough to inform you that you are unwitting collaborators in a Three Card Monty Game...
Trouble is when you get old enough, you just forget it the next day anyway. ;-)
