Fossils from two giant rhinos dating back about 22 million years have been unearthed in China, according to a study published Thursday.
They are among the latest relics of the gigantic animal, which was discovered amid great fanfare early last century. Much larger than modern rhinos, giant rhinos often stood more than 20 feet tall at the shoulder and weighed more than 20 tons, making them bigger than mammoths and the largest land mammal that ever lived.
One fossil consists of a skull, jawbone and teeth, and the atlas vertebra — where the head connects to the spine — while the other consists of three vertebrae. From these remains, the scientists have reconstructed the ancient animals. And they’ve discerned enough differences in their skeletons to classify them as a new species,

That makes me ill. A human is worth far more than an animal, even an endangered species.
All they need to do is tranquilizer-dart the elephant or rhino and cut off their tusks/horns. Those animals will be far more protected than anything those horns woulda protected them, because they got park rangers with AK47s guarding them. The recovered ivory could pay for the entire operation of protecting those species and there would no longer be any reason for poaching.
But instead, they’re KILLING humans over ANIMALS. Got it completely backwards.

The Rhinos referred to in this article stood more than 20 feet tall at the shoulder and weighed more than 20 tons. D. schrani @ 65 tons > Giant Rhino @ 20 tons. Seems like a simple inequality to me. What's to question?

Endangered species isn't the issue. Tourism is 80% of the economy of countries in that part of Africa. If you see how people there live you know that if you destroy tourism you have mass starvation. In countries like Kenya,Tanzania,Botswana,etc tourism equals survival.
Imagine the carnivores that would kill such an animal!
