CONTROVERSY has been sparked ahead of the Tokyo Games after Laurel Hubbard became the first ever transgender athlete picked to compete at an Olympics.
Officials have selected the New Zealander for the women's weightlifting team following recent modifications to qualifying requirements.
The 43-year-old, who many thought her career was over in 2018 after she sustained a horrific injury to her elbow, previously competed in men's events before coming out as transgender back in 2013.
A host of critics claim Hubbard has an unfair advantage although others are arguing that there should be more inclusion at the Games.
In a statement issued by the New Zealand Olympic Committee today, Hubbard said: “I am grateful and humbled by the kindness and support that has been given to me by so many New Zealanders.”
Hubbard will now compete in the women's 87-kg weightlifting category.
She became eligible when the International Olympic Committee in 2015 changed its rules.
The IOC are now allowing transgender athletes to compete as a woman if their testosterone, a hormone that increases muscle mass, levels are below a certain threshold.
Hubbard’s testosterone levels are below that threshold, but that has not stopped critics claiming her participation in the Olympics is still unfair to female-born athletes.
They pointed to the biological advantages, such as increased bone and muscle density, of those who went through puberty as males.
LAUREL HUBBARD
The New Zealand released this statement after her inclusion for the Tokyo Olympic Games: “I am grateful and humbled by the kindness and support that has been given to me by so many New Zealanders.“When I broke my arm at the CW Games, I was advised my career had likely reached its end. But your support, encouragement and aroha carried me through the darkness.“The last eighteen months has shown us all that there is strength in kinship, in community, and in working together towards a common purpose.“The mana of the silver fern comes from all of you and I will wear it with pride.”
Idiocracy lives!
Being born a dude is a career threatening injury?
Not watching ANY “Olympics” as long as they allow crazies who think they are a different sex than their chromosomes.
Let’s hope half the countries boycott
...”others are arguing that there should be more inclusion at the Games.”
Hhaaahhhaaa...what perversion.
Olympic boycott bump!
As is stated, testosterone is not the only advantage males have over females in terms of physical strength. It’s not just development after puberty either, however. It goes all the way back to development in the womb, which we will never be able to just alter with a few shots.
So now that Gold is already decided before it begins I guess the interest will be in who wins silver.
If this is how it’s going to be, why have women’s sports at all?
Why have separate women’s sports organizations, if stronger men can muscle their way in, and take over?
Granted, the vast majority of women in women’s sports will be biological females. But these “trans” people in women’s sports will always be dominant athletes given their physical advantages.
Which touches on why we have separate women’s sports organizations in the first place. Men and women are different, and men will always have an advantage in athletic competition, if men compete directly against women.
Easy to boycott the Olympics — coverage is so miserable, you *want* to turn it off.
The Olympics have been a joke since they let pro-basketballers play on the American team.
Individual events were still compelling but now that there all-tranny all the time, they also are a joke.
Woke joke, that gal’s a bloke.
Yikes.
> So now that Gold is already decided before it begins I guess the interest will be in who wins silver. <
Yep. But if this guy is allowed to compete as a gal, then by the next Olympics all of the women’s medals will be won by men. Then the question becomes: How far down the list would you have to go before you find the first real woman?
I am not watching for the reasons you cite. I was watching the US Open yesterday and they talked about the slate of professional golfers going to the Olympics. For one, I do not consider golf to be an Olympic sport; but if they are going to have it in then Olympics, it ought to be played by amateurs. I also don't want to watch American athletes kneeling or raising a fist for BLM, and I certainly don't need to see tranny crazies competing as fake women. I used to like to watch the Olympics, but doubt I ever will again.
Olympic display of perversion and demonic illness.
“Not watching ANY “Olympics...”
Same here, IMO the Olympics will have significantly less viewer ship just to appease these people.
I don’t see how this former dude can compete in either the snatch or the jerk competition.
