Please pray for my cat and my family

Posted on 06/15/2021 9:06:40 AM PDT by millenial4freedom

Hi All,

I don't post here often, but I would greatly appreciate some prayers for me and my family as we navigate the painful predicament we find ourselves to be in.

My 18-year old black short-hair cat, Salem, was diagnosed with feline leukemia last Friday. Over the last two weeks, he has progressively gotten more lethargic, has eaten less and less, and has been shedding quite significantly. We took him to our local veterinarian on Friday given these troubling symptoms and were informed of Salem's diagnosis by the vet.

Last night, we made the difficult decision to euthanize him this coming Wednesday as he has refused any form of solid food and the prognosis for Felv cats at Salem's age is simply too uncertain.

I ask that you pray for my family and my cat as we spend our last 24 hours together. I also ask for prayers for a peaceful transition to Heaven for Salem marked by comfort, fearlessness, and happiness.

Thank you all and God Bless.

Done. Look ahead to when you can meet him at the rainbow bridge when all pain and sorrows are gone for him, you and your family.

Sorry you are going through this. It is always difficult to lose a pet. Praying for you and your family as you say goodbye to an old friend.

Prayers for you and your family. Having experienced it with 3 of my personal pets, they all left this earth quietly and gently.

Sending up a prayer for you and your family. I know it’s hard to say goodbye to a four-legged family member. You have my empathy.

You gave Salem a good life.

Celebrate his very long life.
18 years is a testament to the love and care he was given.

I am so very sorry for your family and your cat. He has lived a good long life, undoubtedly loved very much. You have the opportunity to give him the last kindness of alleviating his suffering. Feline leukemia is a horrible disease that destroys the immune system and opens the way for him to get all kinds of infections and other uncomfortable symptoms. He probably feels lousy. If he is not really eating, his quality of life is gone. You should love him up all you can, nuzzle him, kiss him, let him know he is cherished. And then you have nothing to feel guilty about for letting him go, free from further suffering.

After a suitable interval, the greatest homage you could do to his memory is (1) make a donation to a cat rescue and (2) save another life and give another cat a good home. Your cat was obviously a superb ambassador for his species and in his honored memory, give another kitty a good home.

Prayers for your beloved cat, and mostly for your family. Having to put you beloved family pet who is like a family member down is always an emotional time, but the cat would soon pass anyway by not eating. The best thing to do it go to the pound and pick out a new one. Not as a replacement but as another pet who is in need of your love, and that you can share your love with also.

I know it isn’t much comfort, but 18 years is a long, full life for a cat. Your friend had the advantage of being part of a loving family. Not every cat or dog enjoys that. You are doing the best thing under the circumstances, although it feels awful to have to make such a decision.

I’m so so sorry. I just said goodbye to my 18 year old kitty less than a year ago. Her brother, at age 20, died a few years prior. I now have a dog with cancer and her brother has dementia. It’s tough saying goodbye to our critters. Prayers going up!

Had to put wonderful cat down a month ago, so my sympathies.
Know that while there will never be another Salem there are plenty of great companions in the kitty orphanage hoping to find a forever home, and each is just as unique and wonderful.
