One Richmond family got a shocking delivery last month when 80,000 pennies were dumped on their front lawn. Now, they're using the money to help those in need.
"I just turned 18. When I was in the middle of class, my dad came by. He had rented a trailer," Avery Sanford, a Deep Run High School senior, said. "He pulled up in front of the house and turned the trailer on so it dumped out all the pennies on the grass and my mom came out and was like, 'What are you dumping in my yard?' She didn't know who it was until he shouted, 'It's your final child support payment."
The act had an impact on the teenager.
"It's not just my mom he's trying to embarrass, it's also me and my sister and it's upsetting that he didn't consider that before he did that," Sanford said.
Once the pennies were picked up, Sanford and her mom decided to turn a bad situation into a positive one.
Every penny of Avery's last child support payment will be donated to Safe Harbor, a domestic abuse center.
"Turning around and donating that money to moms and children in need, I feel like that really turns this situation into a positive. You can learn from it," Avery said.

So they didn’t really “need” the money if they could afford to donate it. They just wanted to get it out of the father.
They do. As others have noted on this thread there are two sides to every story, and they did give the father the chance to present his side at the end of the article, and he gave a pretty wishy-washy explanation.
While any father should fully want to provide for his children as best he can, the fact that the mother was able to casually donate the entire last payment to a charity raises the question of how much the father's payments were needed and if they actually went to supporting the child.

To turn this on him, he ought to be hauled into court for failure to pay the full amount. She could make up a number, like there was only half of it there. I bet this passive aggressive guy did not think that could happen. Unless Brinks delivered it, he has no proof that he actually delivered that number of coins given the manner they were delivered. Good chance he’ll lose, court especially won’t like his anti-social, abnormal behavior. He will have to make up the difference + pay her attorney fees (and his own). Court could even order the form of the next payment - certified funds. ANd to do this again, he will be held in contempt.
She could have been the worse ex- in the world. As a very wise woman once told me, “Well ... [he] picked her.” And even if she was the absolute worst, the strategy is to get out of there asap and move on as life is too short. Emotions need to be kept in check.
Well, not much info here. Maybe the woman and the kids are horrible grasping A-holes.
I hope she donated the money to some woke cause? Like underpants for transgenders.

Since they gave it all away then I can guess that they didn’t need it.

That’s pretty crazy, and one of the reasons they changed common law laws in Alberta too. So many women would go move in with a man for six months, then take half his stuff and go do it to the next sucker. The Alberta government has changed it to 3 years. I knew of one woman who had done that so much she was independently wealthy. I haven’t seen that one in a number of years, so maybe one of the exes had enough and decided a hit was cheaper, I don’t know, but it’s crazy she got away with that for so long.

The “need” may have been determined by statute, by tables that the court has to follow based on the parties’ income, custody terms, etc. If courts had to oversee how every dime was spent on child support - it would take an expansion in the number of courts, running 24/7 full out. If the reporter knew the rules, the mother should have been asked straight up - “How is donating the money intended to support the child in your child’s best interest, for example why did you not instead of put it aside for child’s future education? Appears you owe your child that money out of your own pocket.”
Yes, I’m not saying I’d do this, I wouldn’t. My kids have already been alienated against me bad enough, I don’t need to add to it. Also, I’d have to go across the entire country to get there.

Oldest came at 2002 to me....younger daughter the next year but I paid full ticket till 2007 just so she didn't make things too crazy
And cray cray she is...but damn she was pretty in her 20s
I was husband two of five....last one tried to kill her...seriously...nuts....he did several years in Washington state...for that...I used to warn her you're going to anger the wrong man one day
So yes.....ex wives ....who in general even the good ones will poison father children relationships when it suits them....will lie and say dad didn't pay child support
You just have to pay it and be there and fight for your rights....my dad helped me ....I woulda been screwed otherwise......best you can do. Honor and duty even if she does flip them...

Moral...choose your wife carefully.....all women can go south....even the good ones...the good ones it's usually just temporary and they bounce back to that dear sweet thing you were first attracted to to begin with
Children suffer enormously when one parent is cray cray....and acts out in their own self interest in spite of the kid
Bashing the other parent is poison but sometimes you have to respond to allegations

I don’t disagree, I just commented that I can relate to the frustrations. I would not manifest in this fashion though. I usually take it out on the steel at 1000 yards and 1500 (been meaning to setup the one at 2500 again).
Ex wives can do this with big child support too especially if they remarried another rich mark

He could have just written a check for $800 and been done, but he decided to go to the trouble of getting 80,000 pennies from a bank. Loaded them in a trailer. Drove the trailer over to the ex’s house, and dumped them. Guy sounds super-immature.

Yes, of course a man is responsible for his children, he should contribute support to them. Notice the word contribute. In a divorce when the woman gets the kids she also has a responsibility to share in the support of those children. However the idea that most judges have that somehow the family can live separately and yet the man can still support everybody to the same degree is incredibly bad and bigoted mathematics.
My sister-in-law collected child support for 10 years never spent dime 1 on the kid. My wife and I and my mother-in-law bought the child all of her clothes and incidentals.
The point I am making is that when you read a short piece like this it’s about a 95% chance you’re getting a very incomplete picture. It’s best to keep that in mind
men are only responsible for half the cost of an abortion... her body her choice. i think there could be a legal precedent set.
why should men be held responsible by the state, when the state cannot interfere with a woman’s right to choose?
