Hello FReepers. I am curious about your favorite folder knife. I'm looking for recommendations from people who carry for every day use. Preferably made in the USA and want to stay under $100 but will consider higher.
Do not want a cheap stainless blade. Need something that sharpens to shaving level.
Thank-you in advance.
Kersg, any design by Ken Onion. Tanto Points look coll and are bad a$$, but toughe to sharpen.
Spyderco (several models) - a durable folder that you can open and close with one hand and sharpen enough to shave your arm hair. Been my EDC for years.
Zero Tolerance G-10 Folder
Very solid construction.
I have two Kersaw folders. The Airliner and an assisted opener. I mostly carry the assisted opener. Both do the job at a reasonable price point.
If you want razer sharpness I do not recommend Buck. They’re wonderful knives, I have a 110 folder I bought in 1974. It is a little heavy but it’s been around the world a couple times with me during my seafaring days. I’m on my 2nd belt pouch.
Victorinox, has other options besides the MacGyver Swiss army knife models. Good steel.
TBH, if you want razor sharp it is either going to get a thin blade and stainless or any number of blades in low carbon steel. I prefer low carbon steel mainly because you can sharpen that on a rock if you absolutely have to.
If you have a couple of hundred bucks you can buy grinders and grit bars, wetstones, wetstone levelers, etc... and develope the necessary touch around this equipment.
Or go low carbon.
Buck 112 since 1969
I have had the Kershaw Leek for twenty years. It’s a super slim, easy opening everyday carry knife. The slid lock stud broke about five years ago and Kershaw sent me the replacement parts free within a week. It’s slim, unobtrusive and makes a good everyday knife as opposed to a tactical knife.
Buck Folding Hunter or Ranger.
+1
My every day carry
Kershaw assisted opening.
Have tried several, but now my everyday carry is a mini box cutter with replaceable blade. You said you didn’t want a cheap stainless steel blade, but this has made it to being the best for me. It’s lightweight and the only one that stays in my pocket for months, ready to use at any time, and I use it multiple times every day. It doesn’t require sharpening and the mini blades are easy to replace.
Moore Maker, Matador, Texas.
Agreed,
I got a Custom
Fixed blade That
I love,
It just “Fits!”
Bench made. Going to cost more than $100.00. They are worth the money.
The blade on my Moremaker pitted. It was never stored wet.
I’ve got a WW II
Folding Case MACHETE.
.
It’s here,
Somewhere.
Agree with Spyderco. I think they were the first ones to have the round thumb opening style.
If you send it back they will replace it at no cost.
Gerber LST I got back in the early ‘80’s. I think I got it free by sending in labels from CCI .22 cartridges.
