The Philippine College of Physicians (PCP) maintained that people should wait for the results of the clinical trials of the anti-parasitic drug Ivermectin before it can be used for the treatment of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country.
PCP Vice President Dr. Maricar Limpin warned that taking the drug despite the lack of evidence to support claims that it is supposedly effective against COVID-19 will only give people false security.
“Our position in that is we still have to wait for the results of the clinical trials because that will be our evidence on whether we can give it for COVID-19 or not,” Limpin said in a TeleRadyo interview Friday, April 30.
President Duterte has ordered the conduct of clinical trials in the country on the use of the drug as a potential treatment against COVID-19.
Legislators, Rep. Michael Defensor and Rep. Rodante Marcoleta led the distribution of free ivermectin tablets to several attendees at the Matandang Balara Barangay Hall Park in Quezon City on Thursday, April 30.
The lawmakers, together with some doctors, pushed through with the distribution of the drug despite the continuous warning from health officials that there is not enough evidence to support claims that the drug is effective against COVID-19.
"Who should the people look for if there is a problem,” Limpin said.
The PCP official said that if the Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will allow such distribution, “they should also be held accountable.”
“And definitely, those two congressmen)who are involved here because they initiated it, together with the doctors who are there,” Limpin said.
“They should be held accountable for whatever problems that might happen because of that particular activity,” she added.
n an advisory, the FDA stressed that the only registered Ivermectin products in the country for human use are in topical formulation for the treatment of external parasites such as head lice and skin conditions such as rosacea.
It added that the registered oral and intravenous preparations of Ivermectin are veterinary products, which are approved for use in animals for the prevention of heartworm disease and treatment of internal and external parasites in certain animal species.
The Department of Health have repeatedly warned that there is not enough proof that the drug is effective in the treatment against COVID-19.
It pointed out that Dr. Rabindra Abeyasinghe, World Health Organization (WHO) Representative to the Philippines, has stated that there is no evidence that supports the use of Ivermectin to treat COVID-19, even as a preventive measure.
“We need to follow the right process. It is not acceptable not to follow the process). Otherwise, our life in the Philippines will be chaotic),” Limpin said.
“That’s why we get into trouble because we do it on our own. You can’t do that,” she added.

Too bad they are waiting in the Philippines for a survey result.
Front line health workers in the uSA have been using Ivermectin for months as prophylaxis against Covid 19/

The Philippine FDA and DOH do not trust those studies. They want to do it on their own.
In the meantime, the Philippine authorities would rather trust WHO instead of the results of those studies.
Yet, they’re ok with using their people as lab rats for the still-being-tested vaccines? Given to them by China, in fact.
Sure.
In the meantime we all line up for an experimental vaccine using a new RNA based approach never tried in humans before and which didn't undergo long term clinical trials and the medical establishment is thrilled.
Hard for me to understand how they are super-conservative regarding one form of treatment while simultaneously being highly risk tolerant on the other.

I believe that is incorrect. In December, I bought the prescription for my father, from my local pharmacy, and prescribed by my local Doctor. It was not in a vet package. It was a 3X for 3-day prescription in a push out foil dispenser.
And it worked. (assuming his long term test was correct to begin with, the quick test showed negative)
Within 3-4 days he was almost back to normal. (He was 95 at the time.) And he had been very sick.
My father died of heart failure in March, but not of Covid.
Sorry for your loss. 95 years old is a good run. It goes to show our government overlords don’t always know what is best for us when it comes to treating certain diseases.
Thanks. And yes, he was a great man.
And it shows that Texas in not in the Philippines.
When this all washes out, the toll of the cost of the mismanagement by Socialist Bureaucraps will be beyond comprehension.
Condolences on your dear dad’s passing. So thankful you were able to get him quick, effective treatment for the China virus...and, have those extra few, precious months with him.
FRAUDci and the FRocters would’ve prevented those last, priceless months.
😢
Given to them by China, in fact.
Thank you.
I’m glad and feel so blessed that I live so far from him and the crazies he runs with.
And that this is Still Texas where I live.
