If everything goes according to plan, China will become the only country other than the United States to ever leave the solar system, and the probes themselves will be just the sixth and seventh interstellar objects launched from Earth, according to the Houston Chronicle.
As the Houston Chronicle notes, the border between the heliosphere and interstellar space sits about 100 times the distance between the Earth and the Sun.
Therefore, crossing that threshold will give China’s space agency the ability to study the space between stars firsthand, giving it a better understanding of the galaxy.

There is plenty to do in the Solar system . To get out to Pluto took 9 years. The nearest star is more than a thousand times further away.
Perhaps they’ll establish a bioweapons lab in the Oort Cloud.

This a stretch for what most people would consider “interstellar”, which would be travelling to another star, or at least a significant portion of the distance to another star. This is barely outside the solar system. We are far, far away from interstellar travel.
We should offer them Mars. Red planet for the Reds....just admit your bioweapon attack and cybertheft of our election. Hell, we’ll help you build a space elevator for ya....

To get an idea of how far that is. Imagine the Sun is the size of a green pea. Pluto would be out about 100 yds. The nearest star would be 125 miles away.
“Interstellar Space”, that beyond the sun’s gravitational effects, is about 1 1/2 light years away. At the speeds our probes travel the Chinese people will probably be long extinct before the probe gets out 1.5 lt-yrs. Certainly their commie govt will be a distant memory. A footnote in the history books, a violent scourge of the planet Earth.

I want someone to build a probe just for the speed. Fastest probe to leave the solar system. Kind of an X Prize. 0.1C, 0.25 C, 0.5C .... get the speed up.

Travelling to any exoplanet will require high speeds.
Deceleration would be tricky, yes? But maybe combine it with highly eccentric orbits around the targeted star to spiral in towards its gravity well?
