Last week the NYPD proudly tweeted about how they removed an "illegal gun" from the streets of the Bronx, only to get owned in the comment section. It would be one thing if they had tweeted a cache of weapons from a known drug dealer or human trafficker, but that wasn't the case. Instead, the gun was an old Rohm RG .22 revolver, which was barely functional when new, let alone the condition the NYPD tweeted it in.
You're safe, New Yorkers! This dangerous weapon was confiscated!
If it could even get more comical, the precinct proudly displayed the five rounds of .22 LR that were also recovered with the gun. Yes, you heard us right, they displayed the five rounds of .22 LR like a prize haul of illegal drugs. The obvious and misplaced show of chest-beating about gun control aside, they never even explained why the gun was confiscated. For all we know, it was taken away from a lawful gun owner with zero justification provided. So, without further ado, here is the tweet.
Of course, the Twittersphere wasn't going to let a ripe opportunity like this pass by without throwing some stones. Here is a smattering of some of the best comments we saw:
Big Tom said, "This is embarrassing - why would you even post it? A .22 revolver? Oooooooh spooooooooky"Finally, I think Justin Klumker summed it up best and said what everyone was thinking, "Hahahahahahaha how is that illegal?"Wyld Works said, "So glad Dutch Van Der Linde has been brought to justice."
Mack said, "Was the ruffian preparing to ride with Teddy and the Rough Riders?"
Slideshow Bob said, "The ammo shortage is so bad we can't even fill 22 revolvers"
Burnz Fernandez said, "hahahah... yeah, I'm sure 5 rabbits are rejoicing now for keeping them safe."
Chris Epler said, "Thank you for arresting the gun, i know it's too hard to arrest criminals."
The Big Esh said, "Now how are they going to start their track meet?"
Hopefully the NYPD can start shifting their focus away from taking antique and curio relic firearms off the streets and turn toward solving actual crimes in the coming weeks and months. Only time will tell.
It’s an arsenal!
The gun is an inanimate object. What did it do that was illegal? Was is 3D printed?
If people cannot be called illegal immigrants how can this gun be called “illegal”? The person who possessed it could be an illegall gunholder. But that sounds judgey again.
A .22 can be plenty deadly. These comments are stupid.
Assault revolver.
Saturday Night Special liberals crowed about back in the day. Liberals are emotionally stupid. These guns were barely functional when new. Almost useless. You’d think they’d want to mandate them, not ban them. Same as bump stocks which cause wild erratic shots from a rifle. Libs never think things through.
Hey NYPD. The 1950’s would like their gun back
Since the NYPD is incapable of protecting the public, that gun should be returned to the owner immediately.
A Lone Ranger Special with Silver Bullets.
I’m counting six shells......
Street murders in minority areas ( most of NYC) are increasing dramatically. Almost none of these killers are being arrested or imprisoned. Why would decent, rational police officers risk their well being to investigate these crimes? Unless its a domestic dispute, perfunctionary reports are being filed after an equally perfunctionary investigation. There is no “Law and Order”.
How lee carp! Those bullets are the size of catsup bottles!!! 😨😲😯🙌
The dirty little secret about, "Saturday Night Special," bans is that they target the poor living in high crime areas. Low cost revolvers like Iver Johnson, Rohm, etc. were at one time, the only firearms accessible to lower income, law abiding people living in bad areas that wanted to protect themselves. Yes, they were also used by the criminal element, just like cars, steak knives, crow bars baseball bats, etc.
I owned one of those POS’s back in the day. Spit lead out of the gap between the cylinder and the barrel.
A .22 can be plenty deadly. These comments are stupid.
Correct, and a double-action revolver (like the one shown) IS a semi-automatic weapon. One trigger pull gets you one shot with the next ready to go.
Yeah - that's not the same picture as in the article.
Did you post the wrong picture? It’s not the same as is in the article.
If you'd like to try grabbing the picture in the article, please do so. I suspect you'll have to comb through the webpage code.
Exactly right. I was happy knowing that most of the bodega owners had two; one in their pocket and one as a "dropsie" :)
